Battery liquid level

So I go to local store and I buy a battery. I notice some acid dried on top and counter guy cleans with DRY baking soda.

Get home l, wash battery properly, pop vent caps... Liquid level far below split ring.

Do I return for replacement battery or get money back?

If it's more than a year old, take it back and get your money back. Date of manufacture should be clearly seen.

I would say it was the one that fell off the top of the pallet onto it's side when the truck driver jumped the curb at the intersection by the municipal swimming pool. Just swap it out for less hassle, if you ask for money you'll sign your name 15 times and be followed home by store security. Pop the caps on new battery before leaving the store, it may have been a really tall curb.

Saoooo,

Guy says "yeah , glad you brought back. We are having lots of spilling ".

Really?

Company said "add distilled water. Uh, NO! I wil dilute the acid in battery adding water.

The battery must begin with proper full. Then add distilled water to replace evaporative.

Really, employee putting right company image in spite if problem.

Perhaps tomorrow will bring better choice.

I will bring my ball float tester.

According to the battery "expert" at the local big chain auto parts store adding distilled water to the acid that is already there then charging it will create more acid.

I passed Chemistry and was an ASE mechanic way back when, don't think batteries have changed that much, now give me one that is full of acid and yes I will be checking it with a spectrometer.
