Iota (as mentioned by Robert Cross) and Progressive Dynamics "Inteli-Power" are widely used and praised in the Airstream community. It's probably not a problem if you order from BestConverter, but if you search Amazon or eBay be sure to get a model that has 3-stage charging.

I use a Powermax Boondocker in my trailers (also from BestConverter) and have been entirely satisfied with those.

Whichever one you choose, it'll be smaller, lighter, quieter and better than the OEM battery-boiler, especially if you're full-timing.

According to the repair guy here, the converter needs replacement. The new Intelipower goes in on Tuesday. Cost for the converter around $350 plus labor.

Seems a bit high on the price.

I would check with Randy also...

$350 installed would be closer to reality.

Our install took me 45min>

Wow, that does seem like quite the markup the RV repair guy is charging. Needless to say, we are not pleased. I've asked him for an explanation.

More to follow.

Don't overfill your battery with distilled water - the fluid could then bubble out of the vents during charging and when on bumpy roads, etc...Here's some info from a Battery Mfr's site...

"What is the proper electrolyte level?
Liquid levels should be 1/8 inch below the bottom of the vent well (the plastic tube that extends into the battery). The electrolyte level should not drop below the top of the plates."

Another caution... if the battery is a discharged state, first check to make sure the fluid is covering the plates - then recharge fully - then top off the fluid level with distilled water to the proper level...

Filling a discharged battery will cause the fluid to overflow as the battery becomes charged...

I suspect your 'overflow' of fluid was caused by overfilling the cells...I have to remove my batteries from their compartments before filling to insure they are filled to the proper level...

New Intelipower converter is installed.

The RV repair company gave us $109 back for overcharging us initially.

The repair guy also hooked up the solar to both batteries. Before, the solar was only hooked up to 1 battery so charging only that one.
