How'd you do it? Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, though, mine didn't have hold down straps...it had a hold down frame around the top. If I can find it, it's yours free, just pay the shipping.

My 75 Trade Wind does not have a hold down. Open the compartment (curbside / rear) slide in the monster and hook up the connector. It has what looked like a strap to keep it from falling out, but the door does that.

In my battery compartment there is a strap that goes from front to back, but the gromet on the strap is gone. The turn it 90 degrees thingy (technical term) will not secure the end of the strap. Does your post imply that I should repair / replace the strap or bad things might happen? I do not like bad thing$.

Battery

OK, here's the whole story!
I was going around a curve in the Mountians of CO. and looked back too check my trailer.
I was greated with the sight of my battery sitting on the door!
I got off the road without loosing my battery.
The bar on the lock had bent and allowed the door too open!! The lock bar is soft and can be bent by hand! Not Good.
I screwed a piece of angle alum. too the floor to pre-vent the battery from moving. I didn't have room for a hold down in the small compartment on my Non-Airstream Argosy.

I also had an experience like Don's. One of the first trips on a real washboard Montana back road. Take a look real proud of how the Argy is towing in the mirror, and Hmmmm- How come I can see the Battery, I thought I had locked that door?? Sam Ting, parts a little old and a little soft, and maybe a little misaligned. Got 'er stopped before we had to find out how strong the battery wires are!
I don't think there was ever a strap on mine. Not much room in the battery compartment. It is now secured with something like Don's setup it sounds like. Scott.

I didn't tell anyone!
I am going out to the storage yard today and will develope a plan. The angle bracket that you installed, does it alow for the batery to be removed? It is a small hole to begin with.....

This is what mine looks like. BTW, the door latch seems very strong to me. I think that I will repair strap.
