Battery for Electronic Tounge Jack?

Newbie here, just picked up our first AS, a 65 Overlander. It sat in storage for who knows how long before we hitched it up and drove home. When I woke up and went to unhitch, the Optima yellow top was dead and I couldn't get the jack up.

I brought to checker and they said the optima had 3.5 volts and completely dead, in fact would not recharge at all so I bought a new one. Now it all works great but how long do these last if I store the AS? What happens if I go to pick it up and it's dead again? How would I hitch up? Do you guys carry a charger or something? Most storage lots are big parking lots, not sure if you have access to an electrical cord to plug in a charger?

Sorry for the newbie questions!

When you plug into your tow vehicle, You should have 12v lead that will charge the battery as you tow. Just back up to the trailer, plug in, leave the truck running for a few minutes and the jack should work enough to hitch up.

Thanks PL. So many things to learn! Here I am looking at solar chargers and all kinds of silly stuff! I thought that there was a simple solution.
