Battery Connection

Would appreciate someone post a photo of the battery connection on the Airstream. I need a photo showing the battery connections.

All positives, Red Wires, together and all negatives, Black Wires, together.

Just make absolute sure you connect all the Red wire connections before you connect any Black wire connections at the battries. Failure to do it this way can result in one hell of an explosion if your wrench, while on a red wire, touches the trailer body.

One hell of an explosion? I don't think so. A bit of spark maybe.

Mike
I think a wee bit more than a bit of a spark.

Battery Connections

The only wire I have a question about is the black wire coming from the jack. I have a picture on my phone of my connections but unable to post from my phone.

Sorry Mike you clearly have never shorted out a wrench against the body. If you consider the possibility of melting the wrench a "Bit of a Spark" I would yield to you.

You have found the exception. The Black wire coming from the jack is in fact the Hot wire and goes to the Red battery terminal. The jack is grounded through the trailer frame which is connected to the negative, Black, battery terminal.

If you had connected the jack wire to the black terminal the jack would not work as both sides would have been connected to ground.

Here's a view I took of mine from curbside (thus making the C with my hand to remind me). The jack's power cable is black and goes to a red positive terminal.

If your 2007 Safari is like my 2008 Classic 25fb my two batteries only had the positive and negative leads, a two parallel cables. My power jack cable terminates on the positive bus inside the trailer. My trailer had no inverter so not extra wiring to the battery.

I once watched an experienced mechanic, while adjusting tappets using a 14" feeler-gauge, accidentally lay that feeler across the batt terminals. In only a moment that feeler became incandescent and gave him a third-degree burn of the hand and acid all over the area as the battery blew it's caps.

Disconnect the ground-cable anytime one is working in the vicinity and keep all metal tools away from the battery. Use battery wrenches on batteries. (They are short and insulated.)

What does the black wire with yellow fitting go to?

See the pic in reply #10. On mine the black cable with the yellow crimp is the power for the jack and is connected to a positive terminal. You should be able to follow it back from the battery box to the jack itself to be sure.

Hi

For real fun, wire up an aux relay so it hits the hood when you close it. You get *lots* of hot steam when you shut the hood. Been there / done that. For even more fun, drop a wrench on the + terminal on a helicopter starting battery. You don't just loose the wrench. It also takes a chunk out of the aircraft frame. A buddy of mine made that mistake. He only made it once ....

Indeed, be very careful playing with battery circuits ahead of the fuses. Accidents can and do happen. Third degree burns are not a lot of fun (not the relay adventure but another stupid mistake ...).

could you just show the connection of the black and red jumpers under the covers of the automotive clamps? did you loop the jumper termination over the post and under the automotive clamp and secure it by pressure, or did you put it above the automotive clamp and use the screwbolt into the post to hold it?

Also, did you put anything under the lifelines? the plastic tray for the OEM Interstate obviously doesn't fit them . . .

thanks,

I was once wrenching on a 1964 Ford Econoline when the wrench touched my gold wedding ring which was in contact with the hot wire of the ignition coil. The resulting spark blew a chunk out of the ring and the wrench.
