At a loss which converter to buy.

Background! replacing a Newmark RC 40. in my 27 ft. Overlander Rear bath. Looking at the PowerMax PM4B-45. is there a better one for my future use. I will be adding 4 6v 200AH batteries in near future. (Battery selection may change by spring). I will be adding solar to the equation, but want to keep the charging option when plug in available. but want to replace the newmark while the bath is all removed, just replaced floor in that area. so is there another converter that i should maybe consider?

I think you selected a pretty good unit. Modern converters take better care of charging batteries then the ones of 15 years ago. My converter does have a little cooling fan on it that I can hear run from time to time. And I still needed the 12 volt fuse panel to protect the circuits. I haven't found a converter with a built in fuse panel like they used to make.

Sounds like you plan on some serious boondocking.

I just bought a Boondocker converter, but haven't installed it yet. I spent some time on the phone with Randy at bestconverter.com before buying it. You might want to give him a call to see whether the 45 amp is big enough for that battery bank. The 60 amp is only $10 more.

Whatever you do, don't get a Progressive Dynamics 4045 if you plan to boondock. It won't kick into boost mode until your battery drops to 11.9 volts, which is well below the 50% discharge rating for most batteries -- not recommended.
