50 amp bussman fuse
I just bought a '79 31' & (I am new to the 'streaming scene i need a fuse from the front panel. Its a 50 amp 32v green midget fuse, kinda' like the glass ones but not. I don't think its a fast blowing fuse but a slow blow. I can't seem to find one anywhere, or maybe a replacement type for it?
Help pleease

Greetings from just down the road. Did I read that right? 32 Volt, 50 amp? That's pretty hefty fuse.

Hey Jim,
yep, it reads: Buss ABU 50 & on the other end it reads 32V. I agree it seems to be pretty stout, but there are 3 in a row on the panel. 1 1/2" long

How about maybe 12v, 32v max or something? I don't know what would be 32v on the Airstream. What does this fuse power?

These fuses are for protecting the battery + and - cables. They are 32v 50 amp explosive protected fuses. The voltage rating means that it can be used in applications up to 32 volt power. They can be difficult to find, I blew one once and it took two days to find a place that had them. It was an air condition repair show.

That physical size comes in 35, 40 and 50 amps.
You are correct, that it is indeed a 32 volt DC fuse.
Airstream has used them for years.

It's on the panel above my univolt, I think it's for my battery. I think I'll try a new batt. before I find & put the fuse in.

I have found those fuses at a marine supply store, such as Anchor Marine in Anaheim, CA

I guess I need to go look at my Univolt fuse panel. Are you saying that this fuse is on that board between the baord and the positive cable to the battery? If that's the case, then the fuse is a 12v, but is capable of being used in a circuit up to 32 v? Did I get it right?

My Univolt had some 40 amp glass fuses I was not able to find. I was advised to try audio shops. No luck. What I did find was a automatic resetting thermal breaker that fits right into the fuse receptacle been OK ever since.
But, that also defeats the purpose of the fuse if when it resets it creates a dangerous situation.
