40 amp glass AGC fuses for 71 Univolt

Anyone know a source for 40 amp glass AGC fuses. They are the middle size glass fuse the size most commonly found. I can get 30 amp pretty easy 35s a little harder but can't find a source for 40s.

Lacking a supply source, anybody got a how to do workaround suggestion, like putting in a 40amp 12v DC breaker.

Send a message via Skype™ to Buttercup
You could do that or put 2 20 amp fuses in parallel...

A "good" Hardware store can get them, normally need to be ordered. Also, Andy at Inland RV has them in stock.

Marshall,

I get my 40 Amp fuses from Anglers Marine in Anaheim. You might try a boat supply store.

Try a local auto parts house. I have seem them at the mom and pop's auto store, O'Reilly's and Advance Auto. Matter of fact I just purchased some earlier this week. They were about $2 each.
They would also have them at a car stereo shop where they still use the large AGU fuses to power amplifiers.

Throw the univolt away from you as far as you can. Get a decent charger and make life much more enjoyable. Whatever kind of batterys you use, will love you for it.

Just to be clear I need 40 amp AGC fuses not AGU. The AGC fuses are 1 1/4" long and 1/4" in diameter.

I have tried dozens of auto parts stores. No one has them. No one can order them. The highest amperage I have found available is 35 amps, on special order.

I think the fuses at VTS and Inland are the larger glass fuses. I will check and would love to be wrong.

Fuse Source

I get them at NAPA. If they are not in stock they can be ordered and picked up in a few days.

fuses

Aren't these used by auto stereophiles. The fuses used on the battery cables as they enter the fuse panels for positive/negative on my '79 are available at any auto sound installer in 50 amp and smaller...about 1/2 the size of a aaa battery.$1.00 each.Matt

I would have never looked where I am going to recommend, but I stumbled into them there. Try looking at custom car audio stores. Don't try Best Buy/Circuit City, go to the local car stereo shop. They will typically have them since the stereo amps pull upto 50 amps. Good luck.

I have found automatic re-setting circuit breakers that fit in the fuse sockets at NAPA. These are usually 30 amp and larger. Don't have any around just now to see if there are any part numbers on them - sorry. Darol

A quick thought - try a truck repair shop that has been in business for a while. Although they don't use that style fuse now, older trucks used them for reefers...
