Good evening All,
I recently decided to swap out the humm of my original converter with a nice new non humming converter since my couch was out. I removed the bolts holding the unit to the floor, and then realized that the old converter has a wire that I could not figure out. The wire is a black wire labeled power on indicator. I have no idea where this wire goes, and I have not found any type of power on indicator light. I did not want to cut the wire and install the new converter until I found out where this went or what it did. Appreciate any help.
On your Central control panel there is a light which says something like "power on". That is supplied by the wire in question. There is no easy way to make that light work the way it did with the old Univolt when you replace it with a new converter/charger. Most people just eliminate it, that is leave it disconnected. If you want to know if power is on in your trailer, buy a little neon light and plug it in somewhere to a regular outlet. That will do the same job.
Hi there thank you for the reply. I can't find any type of power panel with a light on it. Perhaps the light is burnt out? I have a lighted panel on the range hood that shows tank levels etc. I have a small power panel on wall behind the couch, but no light there, and a power panel 110 in the rear bedroom with breakers. I figured i could just cap the wire, but i was more curious where the heck it went. )
It is usually in the panel with the pump switch, tank level monitors and the like. Yes, yours could have been burned out so you never saw it. That shows how useful it is....LOL.
At any rate, all you need to do is to not connect it to anything where you see the wire at the existing Univolt. The power came into the wire at the Univolt, so it will remain dead.
Interesting - our '95 didn't have that wire (nor do we have the power on light). Makes me wonder where it goes in yours - maybe it's just capped off somewhere.
Hi All,
I never did find out where that wire went, but I did get my new powermac 55 amp converter installed, and it is AMAZING!!! Literally 3 wires, and capped off the power on light wire, and I was up and running. I can't believe that the previous owner dealt with that loud humm for all those years, when they could have been noise free for less then 100.00 )
