12V Coffee

While running on 12V system, I can't get the coffee maker to brew. I plugged it into the 110V outlet where the TV is plugged in an it will operate the clock and timer but when it starts to brew it turns off.

Coffee makers draw a lot of Amps, your inverter might not be able to keep up. Does the coffee maker turn off, or do you loose power at the outlet?

You ever try a French press? You can heat your water on the stove, and then pour it in. Or a old school peculator?

The coffee maker turns off.

The ironic thing is that we named our Airstream the "Perculator"!

If your 2007 trailer even has a inverter that was installed by the factory it is only 600 watts. That doesn't come close to being enough power to run a coffee maker.

Coleman makes a stove top coffee maker. We tried it and didn't really care for it. It took forever to brew and by the time it was done, it boiled off 2 cups.
We switch to a french press which tastes better and takes up less storage space.

Coffee in the Morning

When boondocking we run our Yamaha 2000is inverter generator in the morning. It accomplishes three things:

1) Recharges the batteries
2) Provides power for DW's hairdryer
3) Allows the Keurig to make a couple of cups of coffee.

Of course we can't run the hair dryer and the Keurig at the same time!

Still available in Canada. We have one that makes enough to put some in a carafe to keep it warm for later. Makes great drip coffee.

Another Melitta user here. We make it in an insulated stainless steel pot and it's good for most of the day.

Unfortunately, as the home of Starbucks, you don't allow free refills, either.

Here Minnesota (home of Caribou Coffee) we feel the same. At least we can agree that perc'd shouldn't be called 'coffee'.

In our neck of the woods. If you don't like perc'd Folgers, you better stay home or bring your French press and designer coffee with you.

However we we do use a Chemex pour-through maker at home, with Folgers Breakfast Blend (after tiring of the heartburn and middle-night insomnia of Starbucks.) I haven't tried Caribou, maybe missing something there.

Speaking of coffee in different locations, ever notice the puzzled looks when you ask for a cup of coffee in Arizona. "Well, I can make you one if you really want it."

I had a small 4 cup 12v coffee maker but don't waste you money on one. It takes about 20 minutes to make a cup.
I simply use my regular Mr. Coffee and just pour in hot water in the top over the grounds. Quick and easy and I don't need another coffee utensil taking up space.

Ain't claiming coffee snob status, but I gotta speak up for my old school CAMPING approach, it's P E R K E D. Made it this AM on the back porch over my old Coleman stove, yup.

Happy camping.

Sign up for their Gold card, refills are free. Put the Starbucks app on your I phone, keeps track of coffee bought, tracks money spent, automatically reloads a dollar amount and acts as a coffee credit card. I tend to lose coffee cards. OK, this is an Airstream site not Starbucks-- I am addicted, better than smoking or alcohol. Silverado here.
