Yamaha or Honda Generator?
Ok, I am going to buy a good quiet generator, 3,000 Watt, Honda or Yamaha.
It seems as if the Honda is quite a bit lighter, and the Yamaha is about $200 (10%) cheaper.
The Yamaha comes with the 12V charging cord, and I have to buy the cord for the Honda.
I want OPINIONS. Which one would you buy and why?

Hi, you should buy a Yamaha 2400 like mine; OK, if it's the 3000, I would lean on the Yamaha, but if you buy a Honda, don't buy the Handi. In my opinion, the Handi is a more expensive model of the 3000 Honda that has been stripped to save weight.

Yamaha or Honda?
Will your 2400 run your air conditioner?
This is of major importance to me!
I was thinking about the 2400 but I was shy about the A/C, if it will start and pull the A/C, I will put it back on my list.

Hi, I picked the Yamaha 2400 because it was the lightest single generator that would run my air conditioner. I have the 11,000 BTU air conditioner, but at high altitude, it ran my air, refrigerator, television, and converter. People with larger air conditioners have stated that they switched their refrigerator to propane.
All of my motorcycles were Hondas, so this wasn't a brand loyalty thing.

I'm with Bob. After months of research I decided on the 2400 as well and for the same reasons as mentioned. The biggest reason was that it would and does start and run my 11,000 btu air. Besides that it's very quiet has a gas gauge and shut off that don't require you to run your gen dry to avoid carb issues. I love my 2400!

As noted, there are 2 Honda 3000 generators. The Handi is the light one, the quieter EU3000is is comparable to the Yamaha EF3000iSEB and is nearly as heavy. The Handi has half the fuel capacity of the EU3000is and less than half the run time (according to Honda specs... they don't use the same engine.)

That is encouraging.
I have my original Armstrong AC, that I am pretty sure is 11,000 BTU.
I was concerned because I have a Champion generator that is ADVERTISED as 3,000 watt (3,500 surge) that barely starts my unit.
I liked the idea of the 2,400, but it freaked me out a little.
Thank you everyone for the helpful comments!

I was wondering about the weight disparity of the two brands.
I knew Honda offered two different models from my prior research, but had forgotten before my initial post today.
I used my Champion in a Lowe's parking lot last night, it isn't obnoxious lout, but it is just a little to noisy, especially when the ac cycles off.
It was cheap, and it got used several times, but it is time for an upgrade!

Yamaha or Honda?
What is your real life run time with the 2400 with the ac running?
I spend a lot of time in the desert southwest, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Last night my a/c ran for four or five hours before cycling off the first time after a day of traveling in VERY hot conditions, it was heat soaked big time.
Are there external fuel tanks available for the unit? Seven hours of real life run time or better would work for me.

Will do!
It should be arriving in two days, at which point I will be forced to tell my wife that I bought it....

I used to pull that trick early on in our marriage all the time when my wife left for a week to visit her mom. After a few days back she'd find out about the new 8mm VCR sitting in the home theater cabinet. I got yelled at but 20 years later we are still happily married. I bought her an Airstream to make for it all a couple of years ago

lmao!
Yes, it is a bit of a joke in our group of friends that I do this after 7 years of marriage. The best purchase while my wife was away was a Ford Expedition... the worst is the toy we now call "the divorce helicopter"....
When I bought our 3100W Champion remote start generator (that does power the 15kbtu AC on our 2015), she was home alone and had to drag it up the steps of our house... She was not impressed when I pointed out "well, at least I know you can carry it on your own".. *somehow stays on topic*

Better to ask forgiveness later than to ask permission now...

Yamaha or Honda?
Last time I did this was about a year ago when I bought a certain trailer hitch (too controversial to mention the brand) while the better half was in Florida, she frowned a little, but all was better once we started towing with it. Turns out she loves the hitch...
Hope she feels the same way about the generator after we use it..
I know she was NOT impressed with my Champion Saturday night.

In my opinion a 31 ft airstream with a 11,000btu unit will be hard to cool without two air conditioners, which will take lots more than 2400 to run.
