YAMAHA 2400 / USCarb install
I can't get any tech support from these guys... I sent them an email yesterday (help@uscarb.com) and it bounced back... sent another via their webpage several days ago- nothing... WTF... phones go unanswered
I'm wondering if these guys sent me the wrong kit
ordered Type 'C' for 2400is (I got it about 3 months ago, and am just now getting around to the conversion)
the 2400 isn't even listed on their website, anymore
I've attached a pic of the uscarb load block, sitting on the bolt extenders at the carb... it appears there is a serious alignment problem
has anybody done this conversion?
thanks

People have had problems with them getting back to them. There are some threads on this if you try the search. But someone should jump in soon..

update: got a tech on the phone. it appears YAMAHA modified the carb since the time I ordered the Tri-Fuel conversion kit... so... I'm sending USCarb the carburetor to modify... he tells me it's a cleaner modification, as there is no 'adapter block'.. the fuel load will be directly on the carb... still tri-fuel ready...
fingers crossed

shipped the carb two-day air, got it back four business days later- looking like this:
nice. no 'load block'. clean.
I'll install tomorrow, and give her a test run

Installed carb, hoses, and regulator this afternoon
Hooked up to a 20# full tank
after priming, and a few pulls, it started right up
sounds like it might be running a little rough- compared to breaking it in on gasoline
idles at 2620
revved to 3130 with (2)1000w halogen shop lights

Clean install
Nice clean regulator install Joe, looks great.
On our Honda I did have to make several mixture adjustments before I got a nice smooth idle. Right at 3k in eco mode, changes nicely under varying loads. Have you made any adjustments yet? The carb mod looks exactly like what was done to mine. Keep those inside lines as straight as possible<< ask me how I know.
Are you using the quick disconnects on the supply lines?
Glad to hear the c/s has been improved. Maybe they have been visiting here!!

hey bob,
yeah, i put a quick on the regulator
it says to use the primer button very sparingly, as flooding with LP is much easier to do... but so far i've found i gotta smoosh that thing 2-3 times, 1 second holds, before she catches and gets going...
i'm not totally convinced the carb mod is better than the load block... the load block had nice linear fuel ports circling the main venturi... where as the carb mod has a single pipe sticking through up top past the choke... i'm no grease monkey, but isn't fuel/air mixture quality real important?

Don't worry too much about that primer button, I also found that more than one prime is needed on a cold LPG start-up. I use the long supply line so it takes a long time to purge.
One trick I used this past season...When shutting down, I turn on the gas, shut off LPG. When it's time to re-start it's ready to go on gas, reverse the process, when it starts to stumble turn on the LPG. Haven't had to use it often, only after running out of LPG.
I had the same concern about the delivery tube in the carb venturi. It took some trail & error, but after some mixture adjustments all is fine. Been averaging about 25+hrs on 11lb bottle.

25+ hrs, yeah!
and i bet you just toss that LP tank in the burbs hatch... can't do that with a gas can! unless, of course, you enjoy breathing noxious fumes..
thanks for the pix.. gonna steal some of your install details...

Hey joe- Can you post a side view of that. It looks like it doesn't stick out as far as mine.

Nice Job.
Hi, finalcutjoe. Nice job on the install. But I would make one minor change. Install body washers where the regulator is mounted to the plastic housing. I would put the washers on the inside and outside to give it more support. [note ROBERT CROSS used washers on his Honda]

That's a much cleaner install than the older version like mine. Nice.

yeah.. i agree, still a few details i want to fix-
a little concerned about rated output...
changed the oil, and serviced my 2HP 4GAL compressor...
couldn't get the 2400 to start her up...
revved to 4160(? i think...) for about 5 seconds, then overload light came on...
disappointed

finalcutjoe,
USCarb said they mount the regulator on the back side. You mounted the regulator on the left side. I assume either location is ok?

mounting location isn't important... only keeping the regulator vertical, and as close to the carburetor as possible... back or side will give you this... but the other reason for mounting on left side is ease of transport... didn't want the reg in the way when I carry it..

Joe,
Have you installed a support on the bottom of the regulator? I found I needed one especially with the long supply line. I solved the exterior regulator mount with a second access panel. All hardware gets bagged for transport.
2air turned me on to the Rubbermaid Action Packer, sturdy and seals well for transport. If the Yamaha isn't to tall it may be an option for you. Fits nicely in the Burb.
