Victron MPPT 100/50 went to float too soon?

Hi,

Recently, I was charging my batteries and noticed on the BMV-712 that the SOC was at 90% yet the MPPT100/50 was in Float mode. I thought it would not go into float until the batteries were at 100%.

This is the first time this has happened. The only difference between this charge cycle and previous cycles was that I was charging after being deeply discharged, down to 31% (oops). Any ideas?

Your charging looks fine to me. The battery low voltage was only 12.77. It doesn’t take many Watts to float from that voltage.

Your battery monitor needs more cycles to gain accuracy. It’s still learning how your batteries charge. I don’t have a BMV-712, so others can probably provide better feedback on how it works.

Might share a screenshot of your battery settings section. Charge state is voltage based, not capacity based. It is also possible your settings in the BMV don’t match the battery’s charge properties/efficiency. You didn’t share details about any of your settings.

Hi

I would not recommend doing equalization on a routine basis .....

There are a number of presets on the 712 as well as the MPPT. Just what it decides to display is dependent on those presets. They need to match your battery type in order to keep everything in sync.
