Surging EU 2000i

My Honda EU 2000i surges when the eco mode is engaged. even with no load. By closing down the choke part way I can smooth it out. Do I need to adjust the carb? Is this even possible?

I've had both of mine do that after extended periods of non-use. I connected them up to the trailer, filled them with fresh gas, turned off eco mode, started them, and switched on the air conditioner. After about an hours' running, they no longer surged when I shut down the air, and turned on the eco switch.

Mine started to do this and I started using premiun gas treated with seafoam. Haven't had a problem and it has been about 8 years now. Never touched the carb.

What Overland63 says, plus fresh gas. Non alcohol gas if possible. Find that at stations listed on this site, if any are close to you. Worth a drive out of the way for it. Will make a world of difference in the long run.

If that doesn't cure it, remove and clean the carb. It's easy.

Not sure about your Honda generator, but I fought this all the time with motorcycles when I lived in CA. When the low speed jet in the carb clogged, I would have to leave the choke on to keep the bike running. I haven't had nearly the problems in Idaho since it is easy to get non-ethanol fuel. Small in-line fuel filters also helped. The previous suggestions about running fresh clean fuel, maybe with something like Seafoam, might clean yours out.

Google "surging Honda 2000i" and you will find several you tube videos on servicing the carb for this exact problem. It's a 15 minute job and will restore a steady idle.
