Storage Container for Honda EU2000 generator?

We are looking for a well-fitting plastic storage container for our Honda 2000 EU generator that includes an airtight lid -- we'd like to find one that fits really well as space is limited. This would be to contain any smells or dirt while the generator travels back and forth on camping trips.

If you have found one, I'd love to hear about it - pictures, brand name, what store did you buy it at - any information would be greatly appreciated!

I may have something. I'll try putting our Eu2000i in it tomorrow when it's light. If it works, I'll report back.

Thumbs up Rubbermaid??

We use a large blue Rubbermaid, has a snap on lid, not really airtight, but the fuel system on the 2000 is really well designed, have never had a problem with leakage or odor.
We usually carry it in the AS, and that fact was the primary reason for the LPG conversion.

hi foiled (hey when did u stop being freshair44?) ...

i've used a variety of the r/maid roughneck containers for the 2000...

and while they've all work ok containing odors and for storage...

they've always been a tad too long, or wide or tall and of thinner material than i wanted.

finally the search ended about 4 months ago.

the action packer series in LARGE SIZE (24 gallon in think) is the PERFECT 2000 vessel.

made of heavier plastic than the roughneck line and sized exactly...

to hold the genset and a cord/dogbone and with a LID that latches firmly at EACH end...

initially i didn't think it would be deep enough because the lid is DOUBLE layered...

and based on the genset dimensions the top handle wouldn't fit with the lid on.

but there are length wise ribs/channels on the lid underside than increase clearance...

so the gen set handle fits snugly into one of these channels...

the lid is very tight fitting, especially with the locking handles at each end...

but for extra sealing a thin strip of rubber gasket can be placed in the lid perimeter groove...

these cost more than the rough neck series, but are worth ever penny...

and available at wally world, many big box stores, rei (online) and so on...

cheers

Hi 2air',

This is terrific, thank you SO much!

I am not sure what a dogbone is, hoping it is another word for parallel connector? If not, will a EU2000 with the parallel thingy connected fit in one of these? Or should I just attach it when needed?

Thank you very much

Kathy, my "tote" is almost identical to 2air's, but without the locking handles. I think I got ours at Home Despot.

I only go there when I can't find what I need at Ace Hardware. Ace is a chain of local franchises, rather than a big orange monster.

Hey 2air! Does a 2000i with the parallel unit attached fit in your Action Packer?

moose, foiled and other gen set packers...

the genset JUST fits into this sized container length wise.

there IS room for the parallel kit, next to the genset (barely) but not attached.

my goals were a durable, sealed and TIGHTLY fitting container for the 2000, and this is it!

i keep a shortened 30 amp twistlock>----<genset plug 10 gauge cord coiled up in the side space.

if u look back at the pic, there is a recessed channel running downward below the locking latches...

and the genset FITS just into this space.

foiled...

dogbone is slang for the 12-18 inch adapters we use for 50>--<30amp or 30>--<20 amp connections...

or other combos, depending on where shore power is found.

i'm not big on traveling WITH the kit attached, it's too easy to bash it into stuff, and...

these are electrical connections so movement/vibration while driving (different than while running) can't be good 4 them.

i'll post more pics tomorrow with the genset INSIDE this container and with it inside ANOTHER style roughneck,

where the parallel kit can remain attached.

cheers

Thank you 2air'!

Hadn't considered that it might not be best to travel with genset parallel kit connected, thanks.

So glad to know of this storage option, I do not like the smell of the gas gens inside my truck (have to ride there until I can get a cap on), especially if there for days, parked in the sun. I am very sensitive to odors

All set to purchase two.

room4 accessories
portability
handles

price.... (naahhh) we are 'streamers right?

and is it hermetically sealed?

this quest has been taken by other travelers ...

and all of this was just 2 find the right rubbermaid container?

hardly!

below is the hinged lid rm container (about 35 gal size) i used for about 2 years...

it held the genset fine, and with room for other stuff like the cord and a parallel kit attached at the end (use your imagination)...

the lid closed completely, but doesn't seal tightly.

and the handles have venting holes on the underside, perhaps for moisture?

anyway this style contain odors pretty well, r available at the rm website, select "extra large" on the 'storage bins' page,

and check 'em out...

http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid...at=HPCat100164

because it's BIGGER than what i really wanted, the search continued....

cheers

these come in several sizes and the 18 gal version fit EXACTLY right...

and it's SILVER!

on side view the genset looks to fit nicely below the top too...

however the LID is depressed...

which appears to be for easy stacking of multiples...

but the slight depression in the lid means it would NOT fit without some modifications...

this series comes in sizes that are larger in length and width...

but are the SAME depth, so the lids still don't fit...

obviously the lid modification means it's not sealed anymore....

cheers
