Thumbs up Solar<><>this Works For Us

Have been reading a lot of posts about solar, this is what wev'e been using for the last two seasons. Not too expensive, portable, quick set-up, stores easy, and no extra hole's in the roof.

Sweet

Just the way to go. Thanks for the post.
Simple, not sure how cheap and portable.
A sure fire way to keep a battery or two charged when off line.

All together we have about $425 invested. Bought both panels and charge controller on line. The panels are secured to the roof with plastic Unity suction cups. (wall-mart)Originally tried elastic cord attached to the awning rails, but that was not very secure and took too long to set-up. The power wire runs down the rear window drip rail and under the glass on the street side. There it is plugged into a connector secured behind the glass under the support. The charge control wire comes from the right side of the rear nightstand and and is plugged into the rear 12v power port.......Bob

Gee, all I have is the little $20 solar maintainer from Camping World. Keeps the battery up when we're not using the trailer. If we ever start really boondocking, we'll have to look into something more elaborate. Can the setup you have be fully mounted in the center of the roof, and the wires run through a roof vent?

We have it mounted with suction cups to keep it portable and for ease of set-up when needed, plus I really didn't want any more holes in the roof than absolutely necessary. They could be mounted just about anywhere though, but like my Dad used to tell me all the time......"Keep it stupid....simple!"Happy Stream'n....Bob

Thanks for the info on your system, sounds like it is simple and straight forward.

What is the capacity (A) of your panels? What type are they? What do you have for batteries?

Well I knew someone would get around to ask'n, so here goes, I'll try to splain as best I can.

First the what's: I get about as many from those panels as I do my wife, what are ya do'n, what are ya gonna do, and what have ya done for me lately, so I guess it's about thirty a day or so.

Now for the ants: these are a little more difficult for me. They are so damn small, it's hard for me to see em' til they move. Plus, I was told when I bought the panels that I could expect at least 1.8 ant per hour. (now what you can do with eight tenths of an ant I still haven't figured out!) We have been using these ant hills for the last two seasons and I don't know for sure if we were ever even close to running out, but if we ever do, I'm not averse to firing up the Ant Farm. When I bought it I was told it was a home to over 2000 whats, (even more than my wife) and so many ants ya can't count em'all.

Now as far as what I store my whats and ants in, they live on the Interstate, in the same home that they came in, but when that gets run down we plan to get them a great new condo, something called an AGM, Ant Group Metropolis, but for now they'll just have to make do with watt they have.

The way I look at it "Old Saul" has enough work cut out for Him, what with all the Global Warming and such, who am I to ask for even more.

Excuse me?, watt's & amps..........Oh, never mind!

Nice job Robert. Your flexible panels sure look easy to toss up on the roof and secure with the suction cups. I've done the 5 watt and 25 watt lightweight panel thing for a number of years and usually layed them on top of the endcap, the awning or placed them on the ground resting up against a 5 gallon water container. This will be my first year with the 3 new panels (265 watts) I installed.
