Removing Onan Generator '74 Land Yacht

Hello friends sorry if this has been posted before but not able to find out anything on it. I have an old Onan Model TL-212 R in my 1974 Airstream and am looking for assistance on how to remove it. Has no spark and I am interested in seeing about getting it running. From what I can tell it has points and they may be bad. If someone has pulled on out sure would be nice to get some pointers.

Hey ronsgto,

Did you ever get it removed? I'm in a similar situation with my 1974 31'.

Thanks

I'll post some tomorrow. I did see that there is a large access cover inside one of the closets. That might be the only way to get it out. I'm not confident that this thing will ever run, so I think I'll pull it for my big trip...get rid of some weight, and increase some outside storage area.

Have you pulled one veggie?

Well its out! pretty easy project actually.... there are 6 bolts underneath the cover in the closet. you also have to disconnect a gas and battery lines.
everything was actually really smooth sailing until a stripped the last screw on the sheet metal trim on the outside. One pound on the screwdriver into the screw did manage to get it out after I used some penetrating oil.
my plan is to enlarge the space covered inside (not the opening/original door) to house two honda whisper generators in here. of course I will have to run them outside but it's a perfect storage area.

look at that original yellow shag! ! ! !

wow that was easy, I didn't pull one like yours but I'm looking to get an Onan 4.0 so I was wondering about the set up of yours in case that it was similar, but not really.
Just wondering what was wrong with your generator?

For me it was an 80lbs anchor. Known problems with this generator drum the start, and it isn't even an inverter (age )... The space will fit one if my Honda whispers... Or whatever I get.

Sorry took so long to get back to you but yes I did get it out you just have to remove the screws around the housing and remove wires. I have decided not to do anymore with this generator/battery charger dont think its worth putting money into it.

Agreed! Mine is out and I sold it. Going with either two honda 2000's or one larger unit that I will keep in the bed of my truck.
