Question Remote Generator Prep

I was on the phone with Airstream last week getting some pricing on the new 2004 models when I learned the following.

2004 Classic trailers (except Slide-Out models) will have an option for a "remote generator prep."

Question ... What is the advantage of having this?

I would assume (that is such a bad word) that it would allow for genset start and shutdown from inside the coach. Those of us with Motorhomes have this already, and it is nice! I would assume (again!) that it will interface to certain brand of genset and that the genset would be a dealer option to sell.

Just my guesses!

We just received our 2004 30' Classic, and "generator-ready" was not an option for us. Must be something for later 2004 Classics.

That's interesting. Did you order the unit?

If you did, did the dealer use the 2003 price sheet? AS claims the 2004 sheets are still not out as of last week. Although I heard that they might have had some for the International.

Do you recall what MSRP for your 30 was?

Does anyone have the MSRP for the Remote Generator Prep option for 2004 28' Classic (or other models, for that matter...)?

I got the answer:

$232 (at least for 28' Classic).

Still don't know any deaitls of what it really is and does, however.

I have a question on the remote generator interface option -- so, rather than start a new thread, I'll re-kindle this one.

I ordered this option on my 30' Classic. It consists of a plug on the front of the trailer just behind the LPG bottles so you can plug a generator into the trailer's 110-volt system. There is also a transfer switch to automatically switch to the generator power while the trailer is plugged into shorepower, to prevent a power overload.

I was wondering if anybody else actually got this option on their 2004 model.

My owner's manual says that a power cord is supplied with this option, but I didn't get any power cord with mine -- Did anyone get one?

(You guys have proven to be a more reliable source of information than several dealers I've consulted in the past; my trailer was missing other items that I know of so far so another missing item won't be a surprise.)

John

I have a 2004 28' Classic, delivered 11/2003. It has generator prep feature, but no extra cord was supplied with it that I can find.

Dave -

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll have to ask what the cable is supplied with this option in the manual means.

When I took delivery back in January I noticed the "missing" cable. Called Jim in Customer Service ... he said the inclusion of the cable is a misprint.
