Well, I think they are stretching it a bit, when they say that a propane powered generator will run "about the same time on a gallon of propane as gasoline". First, they assume 92,000 BTU per gallon. Actual is close to 91,504. Gasoline is roughly 116,000 BTU per gallon. With the figures stated on their webpage, (link below) I come up with the following figures:
Honda EU2000i Running full output 1600 watts:
Propane Consumption: 2.85 Hours per Gallon of Propane
Gasoline Consumption: 3.625 Hours per Gallon of Gasoline
Or, roughly 27% more fuel consumption!
Other factors to consider, are that, according to their specs, a 20# propane cylinder may not run an EU2000i at full power, a 30, or 40# may be required, especially in cold weather.
Pros: Safer cleaner refueling, no worry about spilled fuel. Longer engine life and easier starting. You are more likely to find a campground selling propane than gasoline. MIGHT be somewhat of a theft deterent. Run time is limited to how big your propane tank is, built in gasoline tank is 1.1 gallons.
Only con at this point is cost of conversion and increased cost of operation. But for as much as I will use it in a year, that will be not much of an issue.
