One man's trash is another man's treasure
Passing a house cleaning out trash,I see a coleman 1850 powermate generator thrown on the pile. All it needed was a tank of clean gas,a new spark plug and the carb cleaned. The pick up tube in the carb was cleaned with carb cleaner as well as the bowl.It now runs non stop for hours if needed. Sometimes I get lucky. What freebee have you found?

At home I'm still cookin' on a 1921 Roper gas stove with an insulated oven that I found at a garage sale over 30 years ago, when I asked the owner what she wanted for it she said "That thing?, you can have it if you'll take it away!"
Dear wife wouldn't think of replacing it with something modern in our cozy 1919 adobe abode.
They sure don't make 'em like they used to, and usually that's a good thing.

Not a good question for me...I kinda pride myself in picking up 'stuff' either for me to use or to resell on eBay...2 yrs ago i was asked to take a utility trailer from a friends neighbors back yard...he had passed away and they were helping the next of kin clean up the yard....well, the mom of the decedant had been in Tupperware sales in the 80s....I rescued from the 20' dumpster 2 Trailblazers full of NOS Tupperware...still in the packages! I also got an old scooter from under their tree that I made hefty profit on ebay...that was a great summer!

$1020 Sitting On The Sidewalk!
A few months ago after going to purchase a used Honda eu3000is that we found on craigslist, we spotted a Philippe Starck Bubble sofa on the sidewalk, part of someone's yearly bulky trash pick up.
Gemma literally yelled out, "Stop!" We made a U-turn (darned medians) stopped in front of the house, pulled it out of the pile of stuff, where it was turned upside down, turned it right side up and Gemma took a seat on said sofa-um, so that no one else with an exceptionally good eye and discriminating taste could call dibs on our new, to us, $1020 sofa, while Murray drove to purchase some rope so that we could tie it down to our Toyota Prius! That's right, we strapped that puppy on the roof! Needless to say, we took the streets home.
It now sits next to a Philippe Starck Bubble Club chair (which we paid for) in our garden. We love it!
The really great thing is that the former owner stepped out of his house as we were loading the sofa on top of our Prius and we got a chance to thank him.
Isn't it amazing what comes into your life when you are open to what it has to offer?

CurbMart is always open!!
Have picked up and recycled way too much stuff to even think of the best find. The nearly new leather desk chair I am sitting in right now was picked up in our neighborhood very recently. It only needed one caster. Why someone would toss a $300 chair over a $2 wheel is beyond me.
Happy hunting.

I was going home from a friend's house late on a Sunday evening , when I spotted a set of Redwood outdoor patio furniture. The cushions were old, but when I purchased new ones the next spring, I had a nice addition to my lawn furniture.

How about a new (to me) Airstream? While looking for land, the salesman noted that I was towing my Caravel and said "there's an Airstream up on the Mesa. If you can get it off, you can have it." Man, I was back in a week with tires, tools, and an umbilical. It turned out to be a 75 Ambassador with a good shell.
But being the middle of two other Airstream projects, it was too much, so I gave it to BEDFORDS.

A friend of mine bought a Crown Graphic (see Crown Graphic 4x5 as a Field Camera) camera for $35 years ago. No light would come through so he assumed that something was wrong with the shutter perhaps. Since he had another Crown and a Speed Graphic, he bought it for parts anyway. When he got it home and opened it, the light was being blocked by 5 $100 bills someone had stashed inside. There was nothing wrong with the camera at all. One of his better purchases.

I've picked lots of wooden chairs out of people's garbage. I then take them to our greenhouse, plunk a fiber pot with a flower arrangement in it & sell it for $55. LOVE IT!

I came upon a trailer that was destined to be crushed that had three good L-66 locks. Being a person that is always looking for ways to raise funds for my 56 restoration, I took a few minutes to remove them. I'm happy to say they will buy the new water heater and then some. :-)

Three weeks ago at a moving/garage sale I came upon a Taylor 142 commercial soft serve machine. I asked how much? and he said It's yours if you take it. It weighed 130 pounds, but I took it. I ran two small trial batches and it works perfectly. We are taking this weekend to our Thanksgiving rally. Lots of our people like Dairy Queen and we can customize the flavors to make it even better. I made a board, so I can get it in my truck by myself and I can serve dessert right from my tailgate at the rallies next summer. E-bay has the exact same machine listed for $1,999 plus shipping.

Back in the day when I lived in the Adirondacks and dumps were dumps and not sanitary landfills my wife eventually banned me from dump runs because I would come back with more than I left with.
The dumps also were a recreational resource for shooting and bear feeding.
By the way I have a Carefree and A&E awning for free if anyone wants to pick them up.

I used to live in Colma, California. That is where there are more dead people than living. I practically landscaped my whole yard from one cemetery's garbage dump. Once I found a tall can of bud in there, wiped it off and had a pause that was mildly refreshing.
Most recently at my school, I saved from the garbage a bunch of cupboards and Eric (bf) screwed them all together, found a door at the dump, and viola, it sure makes the side of the house look better!
Smiles,
Pink
