Onan 5500 quits and now battery is dead
Hurricane Matthew came ashore last night here in Beaufort, SC but not before it's outer bands of wind/rain knocked out the electric grid for the entire county.
My 98 Land Yacht has a low hr. Onan 5500 generator that fired right up and provided 120V power to our in home refrigerator. With a full tank of fuel, I was expecting a few days of emergency power to hold us till the lights came back on.
After 8 hrs of use, the generator stopped, but not before setting off the Co2 alarm.
Now the house and truck batteries are dead and the generator won't start.
Can anyone explain why the battery would be drained, preventing the generator from operating and restarting? I thought that the Onan would charge the house batteries enough during use to restart the generator.
BTW, the only load on the generator is a regular side by side Kenmore fridge.
