No GenSet Output... Help!

I posted this as a reply to my earlier 310 questions, but posting agian here since I finally figured out how to start a new post thanks to Janet.

Quite simply, my 1982 6.5 kW Onan no longer makes power. It starts, runs but no AC power in the cabin. Shore power works fine.

I had the shore power hooked up with one AC unit on, but I drew too much power and tripped my shop breaker. So I fired up the GenSet and all was well. Then, I went into the shop and needed lights, so I flipped the breaker back on... but I still had the shorepower plugged in and the generator was running. Maybe coincidence but the breakers tripped and ever since the generator makes no power!

I've checked all breakers and fuses. Everything's good. The relay in the shorepower panel box does not click over when the GenSet comes on. I looked for some kind of a reset on the GenSet itself but found nothing.

Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on???

I am so bummed!

This is a shot in the dark, but it sounds like you might have fried the field coils in the motor generator.
It is never a good idea to hook up a generator to the power grid, unless it is synchronized to the grid.
I think you need to remove the generator from your unit and have a qualified electrician look it over.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's something like that that's happened. There is a relay in the shore power box which looks like it functions to only let one source of current into the system. I would think that AS made provisions for other dummies like me may have made the same mistake, accidently powernig up with both generator and shore power. Perhaps the relay had failed.... A buddy told me he thought most GenSets had a reset on them but i can't find anything on this Onan.

Check your transfer switch

The relay in the shorepower panel box does not click over when the GenSet comes on

Are you refering to the transfer switch? In my 84 310 the transfer switch is in it's own box, located in the compartment where the shore power cable connects. The function of the transfer switch is to not allow the generator output and shore power to both be electrically connected to the coach at the same time. This box has a relay, a time delay and one set of output contacts and two sets of input contacts. Mine failed a while back and I couldn't get generator power to the coach. The rear AC still worked since (on my coach at least) it is directly connected (through a circuit breaker under the bed) to the generator.

Also, did you find the circuit breakes on your generator? Maybe someone with the same generator can tell you where they are?
