I have a smarter tools generator that I bought two years ago and barely used. So today took it out of the garage and two pulls later was running great. Ran it for two hours just to be sure it was ready to go camping.

Why pay more when it has the same Yamaha engine with a better warranty.

I'd like to apologize if I sound cynical but most of the "knock offs" I've experienced in life don't offer the savings people hope for in the long run...
Bruce
Funny post, if you have to apologize maybe should not make the post.

These are not knockoffs of any product. They are portable generators made by other manufactures with no pretense of copying any other band.

I read the acoustic test results from the indpendant 3rd party they hired.

The IQ2000 is exactly 1.0 dBA quieter than the Honda @ 50% load. woohoo!

I'm "pretty sure" Generac isn't manufacturing or designing their own portable 2kw generators... they are obviously buying them from somebody.

That makes it a knockoff in my book!

If you want an obvious "made to a price point" whatever, go for it. It is your money after all. Honda and Yamaha make "real" products that cost more but typically perform to higher standards and as a bonus you can actually get parts 10 years later...

I'd suggest that before you spring for this unit check out the reviews on Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/Generac-6719-P...generac+ix2000

For my money, I'd rather have less or smaller high quality stuff...

One thing I do not like about any of these 2kw generators is the noise they make... 1dBA is 1 dBA, quiet is good. Quieter is better!

Normally the electronics go out before you wear out the engine.

Never go with the inferior (Chinese) product if you can help it. You almost always end up with a larger bill over the years. Get a Honda or Yamaha.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but the Amazon review link previously mentioned was not for this new IQ series. The reviews for this series are considerably better, with 78% either 5 or 4-star .

Oh, I obviously got that wrong then...
Still wouldn't change my mind though!
Thanks,

I was in Costco today and they have the Generac 2000 Watt Inverter on sale for $429. That's a great deal!

This may be silly but does a 2000 watt unit run our air conditioner well? Thats 16 amps roughly so that should be enough id imagine. The reason I ask is ive only used 30 amp hookups so far.

I have had My iQ2000 for almost a year. Got it at a local dealer and it has performed great, no problems, starts everytime and it is definitely quiet. I got it for $649 and I will probably get the parallel kit and add a second in the coming year. Also according to a reply from the staff, it is manufactured in the U.S. (I am sure there are internal components made elsewhere, but that is true of almost all modern electrical devices)

Costco has it for $499 on their web site. I would love to get one for $429. How did you manage that?

The one on their web site appears to be the ix2000 model, not the iq2000. I'm not sure of the differences.

It is not as quiet, etc... Clearly not the Iq. I was tempted by the same Costco deal.

Any more details on the differences between iX2000 and iQ2000? The Costco sale on the iX2000 ends tomorrow. I've been looking at both units on Generac's site and aside from the PowerBar indicators they seem to be basically the same. I'd love to pick up two (under $1000) and the parallel kit and be able to use to power AC.

FYI,

iX2000 is made by a partner overseas to Generac's specifications

iQ2000 is made in the U.S.
