McColluch Genset

I saw a McColluch 2000W portable generator here for $450 NIB. It weights 40 some pounds and says its whisper quiet. It is shaped similar to the Hondas and Yamahas. Gad, if this thing is at all decent I'm E-Baying the Yamaha. Anyone out there have any experience or reports on this generator?

Is this the Kipor generator? I've looked at the Kipor site with McCullough engines and they seem feasible. I'm not sure about repair stations so I am holding tight and looking at the Yamaha 30iseb.

I have a McCollugh chain saw, weed eater, & leaf blower. They were made by the "old Mac company" which went bankrupt a few years ago. They should have based on my experience. Poorly designed, poorly engineered, & poorly manufactured. High maintenance plastic junk.

I heard they were going to restart the company and manufacture in Mexico or similar low cost country.

My Stihl weed eater gets used all the time and the Mac hangs in the shed.

I would be willing to bet that a Honda gen. will have a similar advantage over anything Mac produces.

You get what you are willing to pay for most of the time.

...............My local Home Depot here in north central texas marked down several generators by about 60% . When i asked whY , they said that they had lots of them leftover after katrina and all the excess units had been shipped out(inland) to several HD stores and they wanted to move them out of the stores . Their regular supplier had also started shipping THeir generators to the HD's . So I picked up a 4Kw Baldor , New with an 8 Hp Honda engine for $599 which I considered to be a good deal . Actually , a new 8 Hp Honda engine is about 600 or so , So I felt like I got a good deal . r66

There is some interesting opinions about SOB (other than Honda) generators on the following thread. I still think it's up to you and how much you are going to be needing a generator, where your camping and what you can afford.
