Look what I built
Its 350 pounds of 50 amp, 7500 watt power.
Wired it so I can share power with a neighbor.
Not as quiet as a Honda but not Awful!
I'm happy as a clam!

Neat idea!. Might I suggest a small pole or something off of the front edge with a small cap on it like the fender corner markers on the big trucks to remind you it's out there... Keeps you from bumping into things when you forget about it since it's below the sight line. Could take a kid's fiberglass bike flag, cut it down (and remove the flag), cap it, done. Don't ask me why I suggest it. :-/

Nice job, Atomic! Do you have to use a 30 amp extension to reach the back of your 34'?

I like that idea! Maybe build a combination bumper and cover box over and around it to protect the gen-set from weather and curious hands. Probably add 50 pounds or so to provide the kind of protection I'd want but might add a tiny bit of quietness.

I drive a 10 cylinder, 10000 pound hot... Not interested in quietness or thriftiness!
Great idea!

Looks good do you have it plumbed into your gas tank? Also, is that a new model? I never saw a 7509 watt Onan emerald genset.

I harvested it out of a wrecked motothome. Its from 1999.
Its one that can be wired 220, or 110 x2 fields.
The builders plaque clearly states 7500 watts... yippee!

Outstanding idea, and look's like a neat installation....did it change the handling of the truck?

I should have mentioned this... as far as handling goes, I think the extra weight up front helps stop the pitch polling and smooths out the ride a bit.
The Onan green is my only complaint so far!

Interesting. Is that an Excursion? How did you mount it. With a standard receiver hitch? How is the hitch mounted to the Excursion?

It is an Excursion. I mounted a Reese front hitch, and built a tray ontowhich the base of the Onan sits in and is bolted to.
Its removable but needs 2 people to lift. I have a small agm battery providing start power and a simple 5 gallon gas gan with a fitting on top. I still need to sew up a nylon cover for non use, and a rain guard so it can be used wet.
Im on the road now and used it for a full day in the rain, and it ran fine. Even the eclipse today didnt effect it much!
Looking forward to sharing power with a fellow Streamer parked close by.

I have a 2000 Excursion. I was thinking of putting a hitch on the front. Is the Reese a universal hitch or is is a special front hitch that bolts right up? That generator probably still does not make up the difference in weight of having a diesel up front over the V10. The V10 is a rock solid motor and I would not trade it for a diesel but I am in the minority on here. I got the Excursion because it was cheap compared to a pickup and has the same running gear but does not have the light ass rear end slide around in the rain problem an empty truck has.

I got the hitch on Amazon. It is designed for the superduty fords. It bolts right up, however 4 holes need to be drilled for extra hardware... no big deal.
It has a weight limit of 500 pounds so this is right at the limit of the hitch with a tad to spare.
I love my Ex, cheap to own, and everything a diesel wants to be! I get 11-14 towing, and as you mentioned, no squirrely rear end.
We have kids and dogs so the enclosed space is key, plus all the seats the pick up hasnt...
I wish they still made an xlt ex!

You must have the 3.73 rear end. I don't get that mileage empty. I have the 4.30 rear end which maybe overkill for the Airstream.
