Just wondering about turbine power...

You know we are down (or over) here in SW OKLAHOMA, basking in the heat generated wind that thousands of tourist come here to stand in and bake their cakes...just joking of course...but today I came across this video about a wind type machine/get-up/contraption.
I wonder you know, if they have those great big giant wind turbines, then is there a smaller wind turbine? I used to take linoleum squares and fold them in like a toy windmill, and would put it on a stick and say ' One day this will generate electricity for a home.

Oddly enough, I grew up in Altus, Oklahoma, before moving away to college. My folks still live there. Not always a great place to be, but a great place to be from.

With regard to wind turbines for generating electricity, one that would be eminently suitable for use with an Airstream trailer can be seen here: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=50531.

For a more permanent installation at home, they also sell a 30-foot pole kit: Land Wind Turbine 30' Pole Kit (Sunforce) - Wind & Water Chargers.

Thanks for the links...that is very very interesting, being able to harness the wind to make power.

Wow!

While I'm a fan of the idea of wind power, that's about the most pathetic attempt I have ever seen. I sounds like the wind is screaming and they still can't get the thing to work. When it does turn, it makes more noise than a Harley without mufflers.

Points for innovative thinking, though. That approach never occurred to me.
