how has it worked out?

Hi Grizzy and all,

This was posted in 2004. How has it worked out for you? Thanks for the hint about the EU3000 cover for the Gen-Tran

Has anyone else mounted their Honda gensets? Recommendations?

Thank you

It looks to be a nice setup if your TV is limited on space, however my concerns would be as mentioned recently, the limitations of turn or backing radii and the other concern would be the drone inside the trailer with the vibration of these engines running. There would have to be some humming, steady, subwoofer like buzz transmitted to the living quarters? The water pump comes to mind.

Let us know what you've experienced. Thanks Griz for sharing.

Thumbs down

OUCH...not anything I would consider for the above stated reasons. Hard on the AS and genset.

If you turn too short will your bumper hit them or do they clear? I've been wanting to add a generator to our 16' Bambi and did not want to put the weight in the rear of the trailer and this looks like a better option. I don't use the WD equalizer bars on the Bambi. It pulls really good without them . Thanks

Stolen

It looks like one good pair of tin snips would cut the sheet metal to the locks and you will be out 2 good Honda generators.
This is from someone that has had a 2000 Honda cut off his trailer and stolen at Canyon Point CG above Payson AZ while I was inside the trailer.I put a plate one mine then parked the trailer on the plate BUT I have got so worried about having another one go stolen I now put mine in the trailer when not in use.
They also love to steal them out on the BLM land at Quartzsite AZ.

While being a crafty modification, I think this would be the kiss of death as far as resale value goes.

If it could be done effectively, wouldn't the boys at JC offer it as a custom option?

cheers,

Excellent job. Looks very professional. I'm looking to do the same on my 31 Sovereign. However, I will make mods to accommodate the sway bar installation and removal. Thank you for being the guinea pig and helping us all with your design build.

Any issues with your frame or has this continued to stand the test of time?

Why not put them in the AS?

I'm brand new to AS, we get our first soon, a FC23D bunk. Been enjoying learning on these forums, my first post, here.

Looking at the Honda 2000. Im looking at the propane mod one on Genconex, all mods are internal, no outside regulator. I just plan to store it in the AC during travel then secure it for theft outside when using.

Two would weight 100 pounds, and the trailer can handle an additional 1200 pounds of gear when new?

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Welcome, troutboy (no real name given). Check out the US Carb tri fuel conversions. Allows you to still use gasoline if necessary. I believe they still have a sale going on.

Thanks Cheif. I saw those. Actually bought one for my house Genset. I asked Motirsnorkel to send me a picture if their mod. They have a large external pressure regulator on the front outside. I can post a picture of the setup they sent. I didn't like the added footprint. But the cost and ability to use three fuels may outweigh for others.

Also in my research, you have to run the unit on gasoline for two hours for the time to fill the bubble. So there is a lingering gasoline smell I was told by abuser.

If someone wants to see the picture I will post it.

Thanks
Rich

Rich, I ran my Yamaha 2000 with a measured 1 qt of gasoline for break-in. It ran for 2 hours and 20 minutes before stopping. I left the gas cap off for a couple of days. Zero residual gasoline or smell remains. Nice to not have to deal wth carrying spare gas or having a gasoline smell. Also nice to have the option of using gasoline if the need arises.

Cheif, do,you just use your LP from your trailer, or bring a separate cylinder? Also, is the pressure regulator on the outside create any foot print issues?

Thanks
Rich

Rich,, I have a spare 20 seconds line bottle. Having the conversion unit on the end is not a problem to me.

Andy's comments re: HD TV contributing to AS frame-damage might be attributable to WD hitches imparting addt'l stresses to the AS frame due to the load/shock sharing. A traditional ball-hitch (such as I've found apropos to Bambi's) mightn't have that problem, however the turning radius is a concern I share. I carry my gen in the PU bed beneath a hard (Bak-Flip) tonneau cover. (out of sight, out of thieves pea-brains)
