At one time I owned a 3000i Handi, but sold it for a couple of reasons - weight and limited storage capability while traveling. I had purchased a six gallon external fuel tank from Honda Portable Generator, EZ Flow Extended Fuel System, Dallas, Fort Worth. As others have mentioned, it worked with the 3000i as long as the external tank is set more or less on the same plane as the genny.

As an aside, I ended up with two 2000i's which is the best solution for me. Good luck and congrats on your purchase.

Just checking in to see if this is still the best option for extending the fuel supply for a EU3000I (Handi). The 80 lL unit with wheels and extendable handle.

Thanks

The Honda EU3000i Handi is a gravity-feed fuel system, and does NOT have a fuel pump.

A couple of other Honda models (EU2000i, EU1000i) do indeed have diaphragm/vacuum type fuel pump. I'm not aware of any aftermarket external tank systems that do work on generators without a fuel pump.

I have read that the extended run tanks work without a fuel pump if you elevate the external tank above the level of the internal fuel tank.

There are several videos on youtube about making an external tank work with a generator with no fuel pump.

Looking on the net, it seems like a simple enough system as long as you set it up and use gravity to feed the tank. Gosh I might even have a spare outboard motor tank kicking around. The trick will be to find a gas tank top that will fit the generator. anyone got any ideas?

Although my Hondas have fuel pumps, I made my extended run tanks by using an outboard tank I had, a new outboard fuel line with primer bulb, a line tee, additional fuel line, a fuel filter, outboard connectors and the aluminum caps sold for this purpose. Less than half the cost of the commercial system, as I recall.
