Question Honda 2000i Design Flaw?

I have a Honda 2000i. The starter pull cord of the Honda 2000i is frayed about 4 inches from the cord handle. I have several friends that also have the same generator and they all have the same problem. Several cords have broken at this spot. I have a few questions. 1) Anybody else have this problem? 2) Does anyone have any information as to what causes the problem? 3) Where do you get information on how to replace the cord?
