Honda 2000i companion + 2000i or just 2 2000i's???

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to purchasing 2 Honda 2000i's and a parallel kit vs one 2000i and a 2000i companion to use simultaneously??? Thought someone said we get an extra 30 amp outlet with the parallel kit???? HELP! and thanks for any assistance.

socdiva....A single Honda EU2000i is rated at 13.3 amps/1,600 watts, with a maximum 30 minute output of 16.7 amps/2,000 watts. Two Honda 2000i's hooked up in parallel with a "Parallel Generator Kit" will provide a total of 26.6 amps/3,200 watts, with a maximum 30 minute output of 33.3 amps/4,000 watts. The Reliance parallel kit that I have can be ordered with a standard 30amp L5-30 receptacle or a TT-30R (30 amp RV) receptacle.

The 2000i companion essentially has the parallel kit built into it. You just plug in two cables. I have a Honda 2000i and a Honda 2000i companion. The companion has the 30 amp recepticle built in. The companion makes it easier because you don't have to attach the parallel kit only the cables.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for your response. I called a company in Washington state and the salesman was very knowledgable, explained that the kit is just built into the companion and I just ordered a companion and a 2000i + cable. The salesmmen at the 2 local dealers didn't seem to be real clear. I really think they didn't have the companion and were trying to lead us to buy two of the 2000i's. Thanks again. We're knew to all of this and learning as we go. I'm so grateful for this forum and all of the experienced rvers here. We'll be asking lots of questions!!!

Wow! Where have I been and when did they come out with that??? The separate parallel connector hookup device works great but it's a real PITA and hard to keep from rattling. What's the current cost for the "Companion" unit?

hi diva

the companion vs base model has been mentioned here many times in the last few month...

basically the companion model LOSES the direct 12v charger outlet...

but that is mostly an UNneeded feature and far outweighed by the new built in 30amp plug.

u will need a specific ADAPTER to use that plug with an standard rv 30 amp cord...

so along with the paralleling cable (~35$) GET THE ADAPER, honda dealer sell these too.

the part # might be....L530P-RV30RGT and the plug/adapter is ~20$

i've got one companion and 1 base model now, and the need NOT to attach the clunky looking 'adapter' is really nice...

here's another happy owner...

IF you just want 1 genset buy the companion model first.

should u decide on 2 (now or later) the 2nd unit can be a standard/base eu2000i
_______________________

one nifty feature is that IF someone wants to parallel 3 gensets this can be done now too.

but the plug OUTPUT will still be limited to it's spec/rating.

IF u are shopping online (rather than buying locally) there are many vendors closer to you than wash state.

with good prices and free shipping.

many threads on 'best price' for gensets, here's a recent one...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f448...ors-54748.html

and don't 4get a nifty/sealed cargo box for these gizmos...

cheers
