Honda 2000 Generator

I am hoping to fin a strong plastic box to transport my Honda 2000 in my TV. It seems I have seen posts in the past covering this. Can any one tell me the type and size they are using for their Honda 2000.

i use the RAP also.
i had to trim out the center rib on the underside of the lids to make them fit. i think the newer ones (2000's) have a gas cap that is a bit larger than they used to be. it is not a problem to do.

Thumbs up

If it's a newer 2000i......

Buy an 'old style' cap.......

And use it when you store the 2000i in the 24 gal. ActionPacker..

Also this seller has some nice accessories for the Honda 2000

Yup, One of mine came with the old cap, and one with the "California" cap. Got an old style for the left coast one and no mods needed to the Action Packer.

I am considering a Honda 2000i companion generator. The sales literature say that you can pair it with another 2000i but I was wondering if it could be paired with other power sources. Say a 1000 watt generator or maybe even a 15 amp 110 electrical service. If possible, these lesser power sources might provide enough power for a/c without requiring the twin unit. Also, a 1000 matched with a 2000 would give more versatility for matching generator to load.

Pairing a pair of 2,000 watt Honda generators used a special jumper cable that uses #10 wires.

I have both the companion and the standard model as the companion has the 30 amp twist lock receptacle that will accept the Furrion extension 30 amp power with twist lock fittings on each end. I have the standard Furion 30 amp male plug cord that connects directly to the power inlet of the trailer or to the end of the cord mentioned above when I need more reach to shore power.

The Honda inverter generators can be paired with other Honda inverter generators 1000, 2000, 3000, but probably not with other generators or shore power. I previously posted a You-tube video someone made showing this in operation.

There are also You-tube videos showing how to make your own pairing cables, or you can make a "Y" cable with 15A plugs on two ends and a 30A socket on the other, but be advised that this is colloquially known as the "suicide cable". When connected to one generator the other generator plug has exposed potentially live contacts. The cable should always be connected and disconnected when the generators are stopped.

Thanks for the info Al. I like the idea of 1000/2000 combination. If together they would run the A/C on those rare occasions when needed then it seems that this combination would give you a very light and portable generator (1000) for the majority of other needs.

You can not pair the 1000 with a 2000 ... only the same outputs can be combined per Honda. You do not need a companion 2000 model if you buy the external combiner; it is built into the companion, however... plus as Switz said, you get the 30 A connection.

The only way you can use a generator to power a larger load than it's rating is by using a hybrid inverter and appropriately sized battery bank.

We are doing this quite successfully with our lithium batteries, 2000 watt inverter generator ( Honda or Yamaha) and Magnum 3000 watt hybrid inverters.

This combination will start and run a single roof a/c with no problems for as long ax you like. It will also supplement lower amperage shore power feeds (15A) with the same result.

The manual actually says that the parallel connections are provided for parallel operation of two 2000i generators. It doesn't say you can't parallel unlike generators, at least my manual doesn't. And I recently found and posted a video showing just that. A guy paralleled a 2000i with a 1000i and then with a 3000i. It worked fine. Now Honda may void your warranty if they can somehow figure out you did that and there is a failure, but the poster verified load sharing and normal operation.

All that said, someone responded to my thread pointing out that there was not much cost difference between a 2000i and a 1000i so why not have the extra capacity. I agree.
