Generator storage

I have a Honda 1000 generator and a 19ft Bambi, towed by a V8 4 Runner.
I have not taken the generator and gas container along, for I do not have a place other than inside either Bambi or tow vehicle for them, and I do not want to smell gas.
I have been thinking of installing some sort of outside hitch with shelf to carry them in the back of Bambi but am concerned for a rear ender.
Does anyone have ideas, as I am out of them.
thanks
Chris N.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

We carry two Honda 2000's with us whenever we travel. As a matter of fact, they are out in Olivia (the Suburban) as I write this. We are at a campground in Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight. We have always carried Amos and Leon (the Honda 2000's) in the back of the Suburban. We also carry our gas cans back there. We crack the windows at night and have never had a problem with any gas smell. We have been doing this for 5 years and 850 nights on the road.

Store our 2000i in one of these just inside the entrance door, they come different sizes so you may find a better fit for your 1000.
Haven't had any smell until its opened. Only carry 1.5 gal in the tongue compartment. Our 2000i has a dual LPG conversion.

I don't know if it will fit on a 19', but I mounted my 1000 on top of the battery box.

I believe that any attachment to the rear bumper will void the warranty. There are several threads on the forums regarding the possibility of frame damage.

I would not do it.

How much space is required around a Honda 2000? Can it go in an enclosure?

There is no storage compartment large enough on our 25' to hold that genset.

I wouldn't plan on a permanent mounting anyway....too dangerous and it would be a PITA to service, fuel etc.

The only enclosure I use is a 4person tent for it to run in when it's raining.

We've had the same question but as I have run my generator (Honda 3000), I run the gas out until it stops and haven't had any problem storing it inside a closet and not having any smell of gasoline in my condo and expect to do the same in the backseat of the truck while camping and not in use. I LOVE the idea of keeping it in a small tent if it were to rain while using it and camping, great idea!!

Maybe consider a propane conversion so you wouldn't ned to worry about carrying gasoline?
