Finally installed Easy Start

I had to wait until one of the hottest days of the year to get on the roof. Install was pretty straightforward. Hardest thing was not getting cramps in my 74 year old body! Startup amps is now 15-16 after the learning process. I should be able to leave one of my Honda 2000 generators at home now. We don’t usually camp without full hookups, but we plan on several days at the north rim of the Grand Canyon and several in the Davis Mountains on the trip home. I also replaced the 4 yr old Interstate 12v batteries with Trojan 6v’s.

We also had Easy Starts installed at Doswell plus purchased Hutch Mountain propane regulator and a Honda EU2200i with propane conversion. Hooked up to propane and generator goes into overload after about five minutes of running one AC. Will investigate further today, need to make up something so I can measure the current. Slightly disappointed at this point.

And did you make sure there were no other loads on the generator- refrigerator, converter, water heater on electric?

If it overloaded after some time, probably something else kicked on. The converter did it to me.

2018 FC25RT

I will have to check if something else kicked in, because my Yamaha 2000 overloaded when I only used one.

Am I wrong to assume that one gen should operate a single AC unit assuming nothing else was running (Microwave, TV, etc.)?

Found out that running the AC with the Honda 2000 after Easy Start worked fine but could not run anything else without tripping the breaker. Mainly the refrigerator. Did not try running TV or any other elect devices while the AC was on generator.

You have to run your refrigerator and HW heater on propane while running A/C on a single Honda EU 20001. And obviously no microwave!

And does anyone know for sure that if you install an Easy Start before your AC warranty runs out that it will void the warranty?

How to switch off converter on a 2018 classic?

Anybody knows how to switch off the converter on a 2018 classic so no auxiliary power is drawn while running Ac on Honda 2000 with easy start?
Is it simply a breaker? Have not been at my trailer and tested my easy start set up with generator.

My understanding is that you turn on converter when turning off the Ac and charge up the batteries.
I have solar too.

Question: Site says Specs; Working voltage 80-260VAC/Test Voltage: Same.
So how dies this work on 12 volt DC?

Well remember I am running off Propane which reduces my power. Converter is off while running one AC with my EU2200i off propane. It (the gen) is basically running at it's limits and the Easy Start views the generator as getting ready to fail and it shuts down. At least that's one explanation. We will do some more testing but will have to wait under we get our Classic out of the shop. Also found out rear AC will run with ECO Throttle in the off position.
FYI, AC running full bore at around 15 amps.

GMFL: Yes we did all the starts and then some.
Wayne & Sam: Converter is off.
jamieb1086: Per Dometic Easy Start will not void warranty

I had a older Honda 2000 when I installed easy start on our 15k ac earlier this year. With converter breaker switched off and refrigerator on propane and everything else off I couldn’t get it to run AC on gas. Did tuneup on gen still no go. Next bought a new 2200 and had no problem on gas. Don’t know if it would work on propane. So I’ve put a hold on ordering the Hutch Mountain propane regulator. My EMS says I’m drawing 14 amps from 15k ac.

Power

On propane there is less power output on any engine not designed with a timing map curve to handle propane. Also there is no lubrication on the exhaust valve with propane

A dual fuel dedicated generator is usually more effective than a conversion

The guys at Airstream Factory Service Center told me that installing the easy start would void the warranty for my air conditioner. I had about a year left on my warranty but decided to go for it anyway. The easy start makes it possible to run the air conditioner with my Genconnex propane powered Honda 2200 generator. I think it was way worth the warranty trade off.

MicroAir covers the Air conditioner against their EasyStart causing problems once their unit is installed. See their website for details

I have found for me the Honda 2200i will not run 15k AC at about 7000 feet in Santa Fe New Mexico with Refrigerator on propane and nothing else on. Same situation, the AC runs for about five minutes and then shuts compressor off. I also have Zamp 180 portable and batteries at 90% +. I did not switch off converter.
