Extra fuel

It might have been on the forum or another place I read that someone was using an outboard motor gas tank for fueling their Honda generator. Somehow the generator gas cap was modified to use the extra 5 Gal. tank.

I did a search and didn't come up with what I was looking for. Does anyone have any input? I didn't have a generator when I read it and thought that this was a great idea if I had a generator. Well now I have one.

I know that forums member Moosetags has a setup that feeds 2 Honda 2000 generators from a larger tank. It is a really neat looking setup and it works very well for him.

Our search function is restrictive in that it works best with a single search word. If you can figure out that best search word it gets more sophisticated if you designate posts by raptorrider in this case, and/or designate returns that search word in title or posts, and/or returns as thread titles or individual posts.

You can use google to search our site on more than one search word and that's how I found the above link. I figured honda and tank would restrict the hits (it still gave 161 returns). Thank you for the responses. How do these work? I can see that the Honda cap is drilled and fitted with something to adapt a hose, the hose is run into the auxiliary tank. The Honda tank must have enough of a seal to allow gas to be drawn from the aux tank. Does the combustion use create enough of a suction to draw the fuel? In one of the photographs it shows the aux tank below the level of the Honda tank. To take it to extremes, could you just have a tightly fitted hose in the cap with the other end of the hose laying in a bucket of gas?

I'm a furniture maker and not at all versed on fluid engineering, could someone please explain this to me?

While being far from an expert on this subject I do have an external gas tank for my Honda EU2000. The Hondas have a fuel pump so the feed issue does not come in to play.
