Every dog has his day/ Generator
It has been 3 days since we had power here. Well at 6 pm this eve, it will be exactly.
I have put up with alot of riff / raff over the years but I hold steady on American quality.
I have 2 gen sets. 1 is an Onan which is just unbelevable. 1 is a Generac model SVP 5000.
My neighbor, and my buddy who live in another town have there coveted Honda brands. The root of the Riff Raff until now.
My neighbor has his 2 hooked up so both run together and put off as manny watts as my generac/ my buddys honda does this by itself. This morning my buddy turned his on, got in the shower, when he finished he noticed no power. He got dressed went out to look to see what happened . A big pool of oil!! 1 more headacke for him. My neighbor had one of his fail and did damage to his compressor in his fridge.
My neighbor has a line now connected to my "American" unit "Trusty Briggs engine". My other buddy is to far away to help.
I stand firm, when all the chips are down, More is better,American quality is still not negotiable.

It's good to see you back. I try to drill into my trainees' heads that "Newer-Is-Not-Automatically-Better". That Onan will probably still be running in another 20 years...

For your anecdotes of two Hondas failing during the three plus day outage in Ohio, I have two of them continuing to serve the same need faithfully, and we still don't have power.
What's much more significant than a few anecdotes is the large number of Hondas being used successfully by this community (not to mention other RV forums).

I installed a genrac RV specific 6500 generator and it preformed like a champ for us for 5 days while we were without power due to Ike. It did consume lots of propane. I was able to run extention cords to the house to power my ref and freezer so we did not loose any food. I guess that offsets the cost of propane as many of my neighbors lost every thing in their freezers and ref. They had more than they could cook and eat . Many gave the defrosting food to others in the area.
I was very pleased with my unit. We bought it from Northern tool.

I have one of each, and both worked perfectly for Gustav. It was hard to sleep with the Generac running, at least that is what my neighbors told me. I was in the trailer with the AC on they were in their house with the windows open. I don't feel their pain as they had 3 years to figure out New Orleans would have storm problems again and did nothing to prepare.
I take the EU2000I on the road for evacuation and leave the big unit for the return. I run the entire trailer on the Generac until the city has power. I use the Honda on the road if necessary; I can always have a additional Honda shipped to me if I have to stay away for a extended time and I need to run the AC.
