EMS with Generator?

If you have an EMS device that you normally use for shore power, do you use it with your generator?

EMS with Generator?

Same device. Mine is built in, and i always use mine with a 3400 Champion dual fuel inverter generator. With a slight modification on the generator.

Just add a neutral to ground jumper plug to the generator so the EMS operates properly. The EMS expects a ground to neutral connection outside the trailer, typically at a campground power pedestal or the main panel at home. The jumper makes the generator look like a standard, proper power source.

Portable Generators typically donít bond ground and neutral because they donít need to.

Doesnít matter if itís a contractor or inverter generator the ground to neutral connection makes them work correctly with an EMS.

Look in the forums for more details.

No

My EMS is too sensitive to use with my generator. I have an Easy Start on my A/C, a 2k generator. Although I use a grounding plug the A/C start drops the voltage enough to trigger the EMS, but the generator recovers fine and runs the A/C so I do not use the EMS. You really do not need the same protection from a generator that you do from a campground. I suppose a larger generator would not give me the same result.

I do not use the portable EMS with the generator. The people who sold me the unit told me not to use it with the generator. I have one of the grounding plugs for the generator but so far have not used that either. The inverter generator is an EMS. sorta.

Why do you use an EMS?
To protect your RV from things beyond your control?
When you're on your generator, you have control of everything, so I think a EMS is superfluous.

Hi

The main thing that is out of your control would be a generator failure that puts over voltage (or significant under voltage) on the line. I agree that this is a pretty rare occurrence.
