Yes, many, many EU2000i units were made in Japan, but production switched last year to Thailand. If the "Made in ...." sticker is missing, you can tell by serial numbers:

Serial numbers EAXJ- were made in Japan.
Serial number EAXT were made in Thailand.

I was mislead by this announcement in August of this year as follows:

"Honda Corporate also had another announcement — that the Swepsonville plant will become the first one in North America to start making generators."

Honda plant in Swepsonville to undergo $8.5M expansion | myfox8.com

This may not be a reality as of yet but if it does become true, I may have to go back to a small Honda. I am thinking that an EU2000i at about 50 lbs could be mounted over the batteries on my AS and used when I need only to charge the batteries or make espresso, microwave, etc.

Honda has factories building their products in many parts of the world. These plants build to Honda standards, regardless of location.

As with many products, chances are they are made in numerous places around the globe.
Just because you drive a Ford, Chevy or Dodge doesn't mean it was built here in the U. S.
My '98 Dodge 2,500 was made in Mexico.
My '08 Tundra was built in Indiana.
It is a global market.

My 1000i which I purchased just this year has a serial # that starts with EZGA, wonder if that means it was made in the USA... Would be great news if it was.

The dealer probably kept it, thinking you didn't want the box. I specifically said I wanted to keep my box or my dealer would have done the same.

It would be great if there was an option for electric start on an EU200i. Mounted on the tongue it would be near the batteries anyway, easy to connect. Just push a button to get it going and start making the morning coffee without getting dressed to go outside!

Sooooooo....What *I'm* really interested in, is if anyone has run the Smarter Tools generators in tandem with an a/c (not that many folks would be doing this in the dead of winter). It would seems that it could be done, but I was looking for real world experience

I checked Consumer Reports - so far it hasn't rated anything smaller than the EU7000is / EU 6500is. The EU7000is won that category and was particularly noted for how quiet it is relative to the others ("especially quiet at 23 feet"), though they also noted that it lacks a fuel shut-off valve. The Rigid RD906812B is a strong second in that category, though louder ("neither loud nor quiet at 23 feet") at 1/4 the price, with slightly better power output characteristics.

Too bad they didn't report the actual DB at 23 feet. In every case they recommended hearing protection when close to the generator.
