Can it be done? Anyone ever done this? How hard is it to do? Ultimately, was it a good idea or a waste of time?

Can't speak to the 3000, but it was well worth the effort on our 2000.

Runs cleaner, less exhaust smell and temp, no gas to tote, and can still run on gasoline if needed. Been averaging about 20hrs on an 11lb tank.
The mixture is more sensitive to altitude but is easily adjusted. It wasn't a difficult conversion, but does take some time getting used to the terminolgy.

US Carb has had a bit of a CS problem with some folks, I had no problems.

I had considered buying a Honda with the propane set-up. When I checked with others on the forum, I got the impression that the Honda warranty would be voided with the conversion to propane. I haven't bought either model yet but won't get the propane adaptation if it voids the warranty. jc

Yep....waited 'til the 2000 was out of warranty before doing the conversion.

I bought a Yamaha 2400 pre-converted by US Carb. It worked fine from the start on gasoline, propane and natural gas ... and the conversion looks pretty easy. I'm now going to convert my less-portable Yamaha 6600. Can't be too difficult - thousands of folks have done this. A few have obviously had some trouble. If I were you and were concerned, I'd find someone nearby who has one and go take a look at it.

USCarb, when all said and done, was OK... just don't bother with e-mail/online correspondence... phone only.

I converted a yamaha 2400 to tri-fuel myself... not difficult at all... runs like a top

ditto what RC says on clean... and no sta-bil in the tank

very happy with it... highly recommend

My local disaster/survival store, yoursafetyplace.com sells a tri-fuel gen, but I don't remember what brand. It also was not on the website, but a phone call can get you started. Given a choice, I would buy something already designed for my needs instead of modifying it.

I also converted my Yamaha 2400 generator to propane with the kit from US Carb. The conversion was easy and the generator runs great; no gas fumes or nasty exhaust. The only time it has run on gas was the one tank I ran initially to break it in before converting (per US Carb recommendation). I have it mounted in the bed of my pickup with two propane tanks (one for the gen, one a spare for the trailer).

US Carb does have kits for the Honda generators. I highly recommend the conversion. jk
