Champion inverter/generator

Does anyone have any scoop on the Champion inverter/generator? The local farm store has a 1700/2000 for $799 and a 2800/3100 for $799.99

My main comment is to check who services them both under warrantee and after the warrantee is over. Sometimes a short term bargain turns out to become a long term parts nightmare.

Champions are GTC

Foreign made - Yes.

But, in their own factory.

Service and support is great.

Check over on RV.Net for about a 2,000 post thread on Champion gens.

I have a non-inverter 3500/4000 Champion

Starts 1st pull every time - great value.

Here , in Davenport Iowa, they are being advertised by Farm and Fleet. This is a chain of stores headquartered in Wisconsin. They have their own service and parts department.

The price on the 1700/2000 should be $499.00. At this price, would be a good back up, but ?? on constant running.

Check the rated noise level as compared to other brands like Honda and Yamaha.

Maybe the Chinese generators have improved, but I wouldn't count on the decibel numbers they publish. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the ones I have heard. Try one and decide if you would want that just outside your Airstream for any length of time.

The Honda and Yamaha are excellent in every way and worth something if you want to sell it.

Note regarding "non-inverter" generators: Non-inverter generators are good for running power tools and devices that are not particularly sensitive to variations in output voltage, frequency and waveforms. However, they are not recommended for electronics equipment (e.g., televisions, laptops, etc.).

I Can Recommend

I have had one for several years. Sound level is on par with Red and Blue, and it has been very reliable. They are also parallel capable if you want get a second to be able to run AC. Champion's customer service is also beyond reproach.

Couple of points of interest:
-Make sure it is 1,700 "rated" watts. First generation had a smaller stator and only capable of 1,600.
-80cc motor, unlike the Honda, which I believe is 100cc. Honda can sustain 2000w rated for up to 30 minutes. I believe the Yammy is 80cc also.
-Usually go on sale for $499. At less than half the price of Blue or Red, incredible value.
-Available new or refurbished with free shipping from Red model is 1,600 watts, as is yellow model 73531i. They also carry a 3,100 watt version, released about a year ago. Could probably fire up a 13.5 BTU AC if you aren't too far above sea level. At roughly the same price, I would go with 2 of the 2000w gens. Much smaller individually for taking one with you for spring/fall battery charging, and higher rated running and peak watts with the two together for AC in hot summer months. They are conveniently stackable, with the parallel module sandwiched in between. Just my 2 cents.

Just because you are unique, doesn't mean you are useful.
