Champion 3400 Dual Fuel $937 Today Only

Snagged a great deal on a Champion 3400 Dual Fuel Generator from Overstock dot com. It's regular price is $1065.49 but there is a 12% off "today only" coupon at Retailmenot bringing the shipped price to $937.63! I've got mine on order and thought others may be interested in this deal. Its nearly as low as the Costco sale at $850 plus tax, but Overstock is selling the more powerful 3400 model which will be better for my 15000 BTU A/C.

I'm not affiliated with any vendor mentioned above.

Thanks AirMiles for the tip. Tried to order one yesterday with the 12% discount and no sales tax but they will not send it to a CA address - non-compliant emission

So how do folks from CA get hold of a gasoline powered generator? Send it to a friend from another state?

I waited until Lowe's or Home Depot put it on sale and bought mine - 3400 watt dual fuel Champion electronic start - so it had to be CARB compliant. Pricing was still the same but had to pay Sales tax.
Good generator, just a little noisy.

I bought a Champion 2000 watt CARB-compliant generator over a year ago for less than $450 incl tax as I recall. Good little unit...starts easy and runs relatively quiet, about same noise level as a Honda 2000W. Also like the Honda, its an inverter type so you can run electronics off it directly; and like the Honda, you can pair up two of them to double the output when needed. The Champion 2000W's can even stack and are light enough to man-handle. So for about the same price as the 3400W, you can get an extra 600W and more versatility.

3400 dual fuel champion...

This 3400 dual fuel is a great generator from Champion. My neighbor has one he uses with his SOB. I own the 2000W Champion, and was looking at the dual fuel larger 3400 model until I saw the MicroAir device which will allow use of my 2000W Champion and run my 1500AC. Installing the MicroAir for use with my 1500, will also save my back from having to load/unload the 95 pound Champion 3400 unit each trip. The Champion line sure are a lot cheaper than the Honda or Yamaha unit's, and the 3400 unit also will be less of a hassle from using 2 of the smaller generators some folks have chosen. Keep us posted on your experiences.

I ordered one from Overstock with the 12% discount today 3/9/2017. The generator has the same model number as the one sold at Home Depot. The Overstock one has a statement on the product page that says "This item is compliant with California's CARB regulations" so not sure why Overstock would not ship to CA. I live in Washington State.

Well, it was delayed so I cancelled. It'll give me more time to figure out what is best for me.

I'm guessing it's not an inverter and it's really loud?

I looked at Amazon and didn't see any at that price, however the sub $500 gas generators are what I call "construction generators". Yes, good power at a bargain price, but unless you're far from neighbors, way too noisy. (not for campground use).
I want one I can't tell is running from 20' away, and that list is short.

We had 3 of these folks at Glacier this past summer for a week visiting for the first time, from Arkansas...noisy for the folks directly next to them for sure...we could here them running 100 yards away...

Generator review:

Unpacked the Champion 3400 Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator this weekend. Filled up the oil, hooked up the battery and propane, then hit the electric starter. I was instantly impressed. What a quiet generator. After running it with light and varying loads for several hours, I moved it to the center of my pickup truck bed with a closed tailgate to test the sound level. I plugged in the trailer and turned on an 11500 A/C with the refrigerator on. The generator barely came off of idle in economy mode. While walking right up against the truck and camper with a decibel meter, it hovered right around 55 db. The sound level of the generator was no louder than the sound level of the air conditioner per the decibel meter. At about 30 feet away, the surrounding noise of the outdoors begins to surpass the sound of the generator and AC. You can lean up against the tailgate with the generator running with this load and easily have a conversation with a normal voice. This exceeded my expectations.

The day before testing the Champion 3400 Inverter, I heard a brand new Yamaha inverter generator of similar size running in the same configuration (Inside the bed of a pickup with the tailgate closed in economy mode, but with no load.) I was really impressed at the Yamaha's sound and couldn't wait to compare what I heard to my Champion 3400. After running the Champion in the same configuration, I was equally impressed. The sound levels were similar - you could easily have a conversation while leaning up against the tailgate with either generator.

Bottom line is that I believe this Champion 3400 Watt Inverter Dual Fuel Generator is an incredible buy at sub-$1000.

Have you run this in a camping situation with AC yet? Just wondering how much Lp or gasoline it would use over night

Fuel usage: I have only run the generator about 6 hours for break-in and testing. I did this on a 20# propane tank that weighed 27# at the start and 22# at the end. So it used approximately 1# per hour during break-in and testing. The specs state "Up to 14.5 hour run time at 25% load (20 lb./5 gal. standard Propane tank)". Since the A/C was not running for the first several hours of my break-in, I'm certain I averaged below 25% load. It appears that fuel usage is close to it's advertised rate.

Go to the infield of a NASCAR race and you'll see hundreds of these generators. Probably hauled for the weekend from the build site.
They're offensive, even during an auto race!

You're right. If it lasts in the long run it will be a fantastic option.
Honda and Yamaha are expensive because their reputation allows it.

There is always a confusion over what generator everyone is talking about in these threads. This thread is about the Champion model 100263 Dual Fuel Inverter generator rated at 58db and measured at 55db at close range while plugged into a 30A camper with the A/C and refrigerator running. The Champion 100263 is not a loud generator. There was a series of posts within this thread that talked about an open frame loud Champion $300 construction generator, but that is not what this thread was about.

I've had an open frame Champion generator in the past. It was bolted onto the tongue of a construction trailer which was used and abused daily in the sandy hot Florida weather running an RV rooftop A/C and heavy duty power tools. That generator ran problem free for more than six years before I sold it with the construction trailer. It was totally abused like all construction equipment and never failed. The light duty task of occasionally powering my pampered Airstream will be a much easier life for my new quiet Inverter generator.
