AS Generator warning.

I have the factory generator in my 1972 AS and just want to warn anyone out there to be real careful to watch the RPMs of these units when you fire it up.
It has no voltage control on it and that means that if the idle speed is too high you run the risk of frying anything that takes 12v.
Fuses won't protect you as they only guard against current and not voltage.
I fired mine up for the first time in 20 years the other day and it blew 6 light bulbs in seconds.

Mine is running great it seems to me that the battery protected the 12 volt system when I started it.. I do keep a close eye on the volt meter. I have a bank of 31mh batteries where the propane tanks used to be mounted. I have a 100 lbs tank from a MH mounted by the steps using the old battery box door to cover the fill and service box on the tank.(I got tired of buying tanks). With the little generator running I can my Colman 1200 A.c. through a 2 stage 4 Kw inverter, 2 Kw for the A.c. 2 kw for the rest of the trailer 110 Ac. the 12 volts from the batteries. I am looking at a Coller 5 kw to mount in the same location it's about 12" taller so it would eat up some storage under the sink. Solar will not keep up with the power usage I need.
