The gen could be stored in the trailer, converted to propane with a quick connect hose. Move the genset outside, connect the hose and off you go.

Now to the original question - There are commercial ramps available through many vendors such as Harbor Freight. (2air may have linked to some goods ones above)

It runs about 15 hours on one tank of gas, which for us works well because or TV is a gasser.

I really like your idea...give me a clue on the heater, keeping in mind most RV parks and camgrounds have restricted generator hours, usually 8 PM to 10 AM.
Once that puppy is installed and looks shrouded with a custom aluminum cage, then that would be the start. 15 hrs is just perfect for me, and I have a gasser as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

The electric heater will not heat the tanks. Do you camp in cold weather?

Got me on that one. I partially winterize on the road and shut her down for the most part when under 25 for the high.

How come Air Stream can't just offer a built-in generator option with each trailer?

I agree with Michelle on this one and would submit that A/S has no competition and the culture is one of slow or no change. Big things for them are new floor plans and fabric. It is a great and beautiful design that makes me proud in every park, I dont care if a Casita or Prevost is parked next door, they are just stand out from all the rest. I guess with no other choices then customizing is the way to go. You know Ford-----Shelby????

well they actually did offer this option in years past...

and some dealers did a 'generator upgrade' as well during the era this was a trendy request.

they mostly used the loud smelly onan gen sets.

of course there are issues in todays world, that weren't big deals then...

like venting, fumes, isolation, gasoline IN the trailers, and so on...

otoh the options are MUCH better on the genset side (honda and yams) and the lp gas conversion better developed.

cheers
2air'

and i suspect a new unit could be ORDERED with a genset from the factory, but i'd be costly; there might be waivers to sign...

I believe the ones I looked at ran on alcohol but a recent search also identified propane as a fuel source. Take a look at these sites:

ScienceDirect - Fuel Cells Bulletin : European RV makers offer EFOY fuel cells
