15,000BTU AC, Honda 2000I, NO Easystart?

So. I received my Easystart yesterday, and before installation I decided to try the AC. We bought the trailer in December, so had no opportunity until now. It started fine on shore power, and then it started fine on just the generator. Yes, just the generator, no Easystart. From what I read. That shouldn't have worked, but it did.

I wonder. Does the 2018 model Dometic AC already has the Easystart, or similar, from the factory? Maybe it just works at sea level and will not work at altitude?

My generator is a few years old, but it had been used only lightly.

Are you certain the compressor started, or just the fan? It is improbable that a Honda 2000 could produce enough amps to overcome the LRA of your AC.

Here may be your answer - right from EasyStart:

"Air temperature also affects the air conditioner. Higher outside temperatures raise the refrigerant pressures causing a higher current draw. We have had some customers with Honda EU3000iS generators tell us that the generator will not start the air conditioner reliably when temperatures get hot. Most 4KW generators will start a single rooftop air conditioner reliably but that’s a lot of size and weight." https://www.microair.net/pages/easys...tallation-faqs

A small generator may start a larger A/C sometimes, depending on factors such as temperature, elevation, fan setting . . . Your generator may have just been lucky to hit the right combination of factors to start your A/C that time, but may not start it when you need it most - on a hot day!

I'm not sure if 2018's have easier starting A/Cs, but I believe you will want the EasyStart installed to reliably start your A/C from a smaller generator.

As previously stated, a 2000 watt generator will start an AC without an Easystart a lot of times. However, the strain you are putting on the compressor is damaging the AC unit and eventually it will fail prematurely.

I am certain the AC was running and cooling down the trailer, but it wasn't very hot outside, so probably easy conditions for the generator.

Easy start is a great addition anyways as it reduces wear and tear on the compressor. I have 2 of them (one for each AC). No regrets.

Easy Start - Honda Eu2000i - 15,000 BTU A/C

I've had the same experience - my single A/C unit will start on my Honda Eu2000i however, you can definitely tell the compressor is struggling. I only did it once to convince myself I need to have Easy Starts installed on both my A/C units. I am taking our 2017 28' Serenity AS to JC in August for it's warranty work and I'll have them installed during that visit.

Easy to install, I don't remember how long, but maybe a hour at a leisurely pace.

My Honda is an older model and I can't run the converter at the same time as the AC. No big deal I just switch off the breaker to the converter.

I have no problem starting or running our A.C. with our Champion 3100 Inverter generator at any altitude. Have used it at 8000 ft no problem and no easy start.

My AC started without the Easy Start, but the generator needed to be going full throttle. With the Easy Start, the generator can be in ECO mode.

The Easy Start ramps up the generator in ECO mode before it turns on the compressor. That saves gas and extends run time. Also, I can run the converter to charge the battery while the AC is on.

I always switch the refrigerator to run on propane with the AC running on the generator.

It was a few variables, high temp outside and altitude will not run long on 2000w. You will need the easystart for summer and mountains for the compressor to total work. I have Sport 16, 11.500 BTU, this summer in KY going to MI for meet. 110 degrees at 8 pm on black parking lot, no easy start gen ran 5 min and off over load. Got to MI installed easy start no problems A/C runs well on 2000 watts.

Less than 2 hours for both. I took my leisurely time - Iím a perfectionist

I bought the install kit for like $10 - it was worth it to have all the exact bits on hand

No doubt. Bed of my truck is setup for bikes so no room for a big genset so I enjoy the portability of a smaller unit.

Iím adding 600ah of lithium with hybrid inverter in 3 weeks - this will provide even more flexibility as Iíll be able to run my central unit off battery alone, or use the small genset to supplement battery to power a bunch of other things in the trailer while the ac is running.

A large genset is clearly a good choice, I just like the small little guy, so I am making up for lack of overall power output using other means (easy start + lithium).

Generally speaking I donít like running the genset at all given the noise it makes. But what ya gonna do when itís 95 degrees outside.
