Wrong Umbilical Cord?

Are there more than 1 type of 7-pole umbilical cords? I bought one a long time ago for the Bambi II project & thought I got the right kind for my TV, but this one:

Bargman 7-Pole Round Connector w/ Hardware - Trailer End - 1' Long Bargman Wiring 54-67-525

doesn't stay in the outlet. The one that's on my Sovereign (after looking at it more closely tonight) looks more like this:

Hoppy 7-Way Molded Connectors with 8-Ft. Cable, Model# 20146 | Trailer Lighting | Northern Tool + Equipment

Are they not compatible? Anyone want to buy a cheap umbilical cord if they're not???!!!

Becky, they both should fit your truck's plug. If it falls out, maybe the spring that holds the flap down to keep the plug in is bad. One plug may fit a little more snugly, which is why it is staying in.

Consider zip-tieing, the plastic plugs do tend to separate and grind away.

The DH just went out again & tried it in his truck (which is also compatible with the Sovereign) It doesn't fit there either. I guess I'm gonna have to get a different one. What a pain!

So, today I went to the local RV store with my pigtail in tow. The guy takes it & strolls over to my TV and plugs it right in. Puts the cover down, tugs on it, and it stays in. Why, tell me, does my DH not listen to my friends here on the forums????!!!! I'm biting my tongue. Then he said the power wasn't working on my truck cause there was no power on the cord. I pulled my truck over to the Sovereign... LIGHTS! Not my TV's problem. So, I took the cord, stuffed it in the plug, put the cover down (like everyone here said & the RV guy said) and VIOLA!! It has power! Still biting my tongue. So guys, thanks for your help. My DH is outside right now connecting the pigtail to the Bambi II. Maybe later we'll have some lights! Electric isn't my forte' so I must be kind to the DH while he helps me out!

So, how come you got the impression it "didn't fit"? Just not pushing hard enough?

Incidentally, it's a good idea to put some silicone dielectric grease (available from auto parts stores) on both halves of the plug. It makes it go in easier and helps prevent corrosion. As you have seen, a tab on the socket cover hooks over the rib on the plug and holds it in place.

kind'a....but don't count on it. I use zip-ties, but a wrap or two of electrical tape will also hold the cover on the "lock" tab. Have had two plugs ground down to the nub's.
Dielectric grease, good to have in your tool kit.

7 way pole and 7 way blade

Looks like you got it figured out. At first I thought you had a 7 way blade on one unit and a 7 way pole on the other, but now that you have it working you are good to go.

Because when the cover isn't snapped over the edge of the plug, it pretty much falls out on its own. The one on the Sovereign is really tight without the cover being snapped over it.

[QUOTE=ROBERT CROSS;1073945]Becky,
Please be kind to the DH, we do come in handy at times.

He is very handy, and I do try to be kind. We've been married 30 years, so we must do something right! Sometimes, tho, I just need to walk away! (as I'm sure most have to do sometimes!)
