Whats this switch?

I own a 68 Airstream Ambassador International. Theres a switch directly over the door that I can't figure out what its for. It matches the switch for the porch light which is forward of the door. Its built in and identical to the porch light switch. Thanks.Jim

Jim, turn on the ceiling light just inside the door, then try the switch.

Do you have a scare light? It looks like a backup light from a semi truck. Big round and clear/white lens on it. Mine is mounted on the right side up near the front. I have seen them on 67 models too.

On a '68, the scare light is the porch light Jim refered to in the initial post.

Doug supplied the correct answer, the switch controls the ceiling light. Although you can still control the ceiling light with the knob while the power is on, the switch by the door lets you turn on the light before you get inside instead going completely inside a dark trailer.

It's a nice feature in a dark area , if you can find one of those anymore .

It's also worth noting that if that switch is in the off position, there is no power to the ceiling fixture. If you don't know about the switch, you spend a lot of futile time trying to get power to that light fixture.

Thanks alot folks. It was sunny out when I was checking out the electrical, and with an open skylight, I didn't need to have the center light on.Thanks for straightening that out for me. I'll try it out tommorrow morning. Sometimes I leave my common sense switch in the off position. Now searching for sources for the axles I'll need to replace. Still trying to build ductwork to install new Suburban NT30SP furnace. About done. Jim

No such luck. I tried all the lights including the under cabinet light in kitchen. None of them worked off this switch. I tried with different light configurations also, 1 light, 3 light, 4 light. No effect. Any more ideas? I did get my ductwork mount built for the new furnace. Gotta get some angle aluminum to make brackets to screw the furnace to the duct tommorrow, and then there shall be heat, I hope. Thanks. Jim

It sure sounded like the one that controls the ceiling light in my '67 Trade Wind.

How about some photos? One that shows the front half including the door and interior showing the switch, lighting layout in general, etc...

In fact, we want to see photos in general.

Wheres it located? And if I have one, why do I need a battery or power cord? Is the aluminum wiring up to the kind of current flow aflux capacitor will support? Seriously, still haven't figured out what switch is for. Spent my axle money on two caps for my teeth. Gotta stop grinding at night. Thanks. Jim
