What is this for on my light?

I've been working on cleaning up my lights and the bathroom light has this extra socket that I don't know what its for! Initially I thought a night light there's no threads to screw into. It looks like a cigarette lighter....wait...no really could it be?

My bathroom has a cigarette lighter type plug. I think it's for accessories - lots of RV accessories plug into that sort of 12v plug.

Looks like a twelve volt receptacle to me. Careful measurement with a multimeter will confirm......Phil

It is a 12 volt outlet. You can use the standard 12 cigarette lighter outlet type plugs in it. We have two more which we use for 12 volt TV's.

Thanks everyone! I've only ever camped (where roughing it is the norm) I'm such a newbie to 12 volt wiring! It never occurred to me that they made things like hairdryers 12 volt!

We have a 12 volt hair dryer and a 12 volt mixer for the kitchen. With the hair dryer, it's a race between the dryer and nature to see which one dries hair faster...

I think the cigarette light plug was put there for a 12V shaver connection. I had a 12 shaver(corded) that I used when I was over the road in a big truck back in the 60's. Hummm seems like a hundred years ago now.

I STILL have one of those stashed away somewhere I seem to recall it wasn't any faster than soaping up and shaving with a "safety" razor.
