Voyager Backup Camera Power

Some help needed for the electricly challenged. I am hoping to install a 12-volt back up camera just above the license plate light on my 64 Tradewind. I pulled the the light expecting to see two wires but, I only find one wire running from the plate light and spliced into one green wire. I assume the green wire is the hot 12- volt and the ground for the licence plate light is achieved by attaching the light to the body of the trailer. If this is correct, can I still use this green power wire to attach the camera which has 2 wires (black and red)? And if so, how do I go about it?

Easy peasy,
The red would go to your +12 volt which “seems” to be the green. And the black would go to the ground/skin. You could use a eye crimp and mount black cam wire under one of the tag light mounting screws.

Consider mounting it higher up...gives a better view of how much traffic is behind you. Plus the newer rear view cameras give you a reference grid to determine distance.

I just installed a Furrion on our Classic, good range, clear picture.

Check the wiring with a multimeter. Consider a higher mounting position, get power from a marker light.

I did consider a higher positioning but the 64 doesn't have marker lights up high. I have have test rigged the system (Voyager WV05410) by taping the camera to the intended placement to check out the field view. I too was a little concerned also but the field of vew was surprisingly good (no road test though). The license plate is high on the 64 and the trailer has a 3" axle lift. The camera will be about 53" off the ground. I plan to post results after I road test the final installation for my vintage brethren in case anyone is fighting the same problem. I can move the camera above the window and fish wires from a cigarette lighter for a power source but, I had hoped to avoid that. I will temporarily mount it with just 2 screw holes for a road test just in case but, I could see both my bumper and the fence (and above it) 30 ft back in the first test.

I have a rule...do NOT drill holes unless no other option available. 🙄
I used industrial strength Velcro to mount the camera just under the AS logo. Running a very small diameter power wire under the window gutter thru the seal into the rear 12v power port with a switched plug. I don't have to turn on any lights to power the camera.

Plus...the camera can be removed easily during our WNY Winters.👍

How does the Velcro do holding the camera steady. Does it bounce around any, or did you use the rigid mounting Velcro

So far it's been very good.

I attached a 1/8" thick piece of high density sign board to the camera base, and countersunk the 3/16" stainless machine screws. The Nylock nuts just fit the openings so no wrench needed. The signboard gives the velcro a good area to adhere to and the area below the AS logo is flat enough to give a base.

Has anyone mounted a camera inside, at the top of the rear window. I am considering doing just that. What could be the down side, other than reflections on the window??

I haven't tried it, but our rear window has a pretty dark tint so I'm sure it wouldn't be doable for us.

Works great for rear view and for passing. There’s no doubt when it’s safe to move back over.

We have a camera that uses a magnetic attachment and have mounted it in our bathroom window (2015 22 Sport FB) It is battery powered. There has been no problem with the picture, it is not super clear (may be the camera) but we can see when there is a car there. Our problem has been battery life and signal cutting out and delay. Again it may be the camera (a gift, so it was not well researched), or there may be additional interference with having the camera inside the trailer.
