I've been camping 20 times this year.
I might have turned on the running lights twice.

You know.... If people don't like you running lights.......

Tough!

I cant believe that this is an actual discussion. America is doomed.

No different/worse than the blue rope lights on the campsite next door.
I want some blue rope lights.

Yep....

Those would be almost as fun as a fake camera mounted on a ten foot post pointing into a pushy neighbors campsite...

I am trying to figure out if I can somehow get the running lights to "strobe". That could be really fun. Oh, and blue strobes too!!!!

I'm sure someone makes a module that plugs into the umbilical that does that.

You can use a car flasher unit with two connectors and plug it directly in, not exactly a strobe but you still get the flashing effect. I suspect the cheaper and lighter the flasher unit the faster they will flash...

I just finished a shell off and wired so I could have a switch and slider to operate my dimmable LED bulbs, in my running lights, direct from my trailer battery.

I was going to put in a vintage style porch light but decided to go this route. Also the red lights don't give you night blindness.

And don't worry, most of our camping will be boondocking.

We my need to battle to deer over when to shut off the lights though

This just does not offend me.
I don't think it would keep anyone from seeing the space station.
The running lights are not nearly as bright as that drop light in a 5 gallon bucket-

So - 3 of my neighbors this week have asked me how I got my clearance lights to go on at night. They thought it was a really cool feature of Airstreams and assumed I had some switch inside that I could flip for this purpose.

I showed them the 7-pin connector cap with fused jumper cable I made and they asked if I was an engineer :-)

I quickly admitted I'm not that smart and even said I don't know whether their (SOB) trailers were wired the same way. But isn't it universal? Aren't the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions 12v and Clearance lights on every 7-pin cable?

I didn't want to demonstrate on anyone else's trailer just in case - including the neighbor whose battery blew up earlier in the week (he's been asking me to "hook him up" with this all week :-) ).

I'd be glad to give him the cap before leaving if his trailer is wired the same way. Any thoughts??

Thanks!

Yes there is an industry standard for four, six, and seven pin RV plugs. You never know what somebody else has done with their trailer and vehicle however!

Thanks. It worked on his trailer and he couldn't have been happier. I couldn't have been happier that such a simple thing could give someone such joy. Life is funny sometimes :-)

Thanks for the info. Now off to Walmart to get the materials to make a replacement for myself :-)

The remote running light flasher I referred to earlier was completed this past weekend. It consists of a vehicle-end 7-pin socket, a cheap car alarm brain off eBay, and a Costco plastic nut jar (the $9.95 size). Connect the hot, ground, and parking light flash wires to the socket, and you're in business.

I just slip the connector onto the trailer pigtail when I'm parked, and clip a remote onto each of the trailer key rings.

I'll snap a photo this weekend if anybody's interested.

No more guessing where the trailer is in the dark!

I am only offended by the middle running light, never the outer two, and then only between 7:00 and 8:15 on weeknights... So, can someone please modify the schematic to turn off the middle running light between 7:00 and 8:15 on weeknights? Thanks!

-Red... and don't even get me started on blue citronella rope running lights...
