Trying to stay well-grounded
The old socket/connector of our '71 overlander was breaking apart. I pulled the old one out, ordered a replacement from Vintage Trailer Supply. As I was connecting the wires to the new socked I came to a mystry....to me. There are two, white ground wires. When I pulled the wires out the hole, so I could work most easily, I found on one of them had a "splice" with a piece of broken metal taped into it. The piece looks like it may have been bolted to the mounting bolt that mounts the socket, but broke thru the hole part. We have had some problems with the lights, hubby said it's probably the ground. (the problem was we had tail lights when we should not have had tail lights.) Hubby is off deer hunting and I'm hoping to get this all back together before he returns. Would an un-grounded ground cause elect problems? Is the system indeed grounded at the front mounting bolt? Any ideas?
