Trouble shooting 7-way plug

I am trying to determine where to start with a lighting issue with my 2016 19Ft. Bambi. Recently I found my red taillights and red side markers are not working when I activate my tow vehicle headlights however the front amber side marker lights are functioning with the tow vehicle headlights. All other lights are fully functioning (brake, turn, and hazard). I have thoroughly cleaned all the contacts related to my 7 way plug to no avail. My first thought is to replace the 7 way plug but the fact the amber lights are working properly tells me current is being delivered down the line from the 7 way plug. Any ideas or input will be much appreciated. Thanks!!! Martin

It would appear from DaveP's chart the tail/running lights are all supplied by the same pin in the 7 way connector. I think you'll have to do your trouble shooting in the trailer itself, rather than the at the connector.

The problem is in the trailer. Look for a junction box where the lights are connected.
You may have lost the common/ground side.
Not sure where. But it is something that is connected to all of the "red" lights. Meaning it's on the back section of the coach.

Seven Pin Tester

Have you tried a seven pin tester on the TV side to make sure all of the circuits have power. Under $30.

All the running /tail lights are powered by pin #3. If the front lights are working and the rear lights are not. The problem is within the trailer NOT the 7 pin connector.
Start by finding and checking the 12 volt trailer light distribution box. Your on a 27 FB should be in the front under the bed or street side nightstand.
Looks like my photo.

On the right track

Thanks to all for the help.
I jumped the taillight pin at my 7-way to the adjoining 12 volt pin and still had only amber front markers illuminate which indicates to me its not a connection issue from my TV. I have a 19 foot trailer and by judging from the interior layout the 12 volt connection box is going to be either under the front street side bench seat or under the bed at the rear of the trailer. I will tear into it this afternoon and see what I find.

I located 12 volt connection box under front seat and all connections appear tight and sound. I did find a suspicious loose green wire with a bladed end that appears to attach to one of two 5 amp fuses located on either side of what looks like a solenoid type device with what I believe is a power cable from my batteries. I reattached the bladed end into the open side of the fuse connection as best I could although its difficult to tell if I got it on their properly. With the green wire placed where I "believe" it goes no change to tail light activation.

Ok, then the problem is further down the wiring harness from the junction box. Now you need the electrical layout drawing, and finding the loose connection, wherever it might be, becomes a total pain.

I am all ears on this one,
If I have working amber side markers is it safe to assume I may have a connection issue between the functioning ambers and the non working red side markers and taillights ? Thanks for any advice.

Yup. That’s what it sounds like. Not easy to find the problem, but I’d be looking in the wiring harness. Sadly, it’s probably somewhere under the interior skins.

I know next to nothing regarding 12 volt wiring theory. Does anyone know if the side markers and tail lights are wired in a sequence? I am wondering as a test if I got 12 volts to the first red marker in the sequence after the ambers if that would bypass whatever connection is compromised. If that did work would it be possible to route a new wire from the 12 volt connection box and splice it in at the red markers thus bypassing the bad connection ???

Trouble shooting 7-way plug

The light are wired in parallel. Each one has a positive and a negative 12 volt connection to it. If you can find where the lights lost power you could run a separate wire to fix it.
If you can determine which red marker list power you can try adding a wire from the junction box to fix it.

Actually, just try a temporary wire from the junction box to any of the lights that are out. If that fixes it, you are golden at that point. They are all wired in parallel.

1st get one of these ,
https://www.google.com/search?q=test...02dmiVKk5hVBM:

Next remove each of the lights that do not work , or start with just one .
I would guess that one of the wires [ could be either POS. or NEG. ] has come undone - suppling either power or ground .
These are going to be in series from one light fixture to another , you may have lost either power or ground that supplies the others down the line .
Also check all the bulbs , have not seen that many go out together , but have seen multiples go out , when stuff comes in the shop .
Also , I have seen dual filament [ brake & riding lights ] where one of filaments can contact the other circuit and cause issues .

👍Bulbs....?

....they were both installed at the same time, maybe it was just time for them to go. <🤔> While there, ck the grounds at the housing base.

I remember spending two hours looking for an electrical problem because the taillights didn't work, when Theo asked...."have you checked the bulbs?"🥴

Hi

Best guess - if you pull the light fixture, you will find a bunch of wire behind it. Some of it will be the wires to that fixture. The rest of the tangle will be wires heading off to the next fixture. It may well have been done with wire nuts. If so, having one fall off is not at all uncommon ..... Is the problem at a dead fixture or at a live one? You only will know once you find the problem
